Which,is a good thing$$$$$ :D ) But my question is this... Has anyone flown the XL H1 and does it need a down convertor for the monitor on my rig or does it automatically go from HD to SD. I might have a gig lined up with it. Thanks and you'll be seeing alot more of me and, my reel will be up soon very shortly for suggestions and critique. Till then, Straightin Up, and Fly Right!!! davidlayton
Hi, I'm a new member, don't yet own a rig, but I do have an XL-H1. It downconverts from HDV to SD on the fly, and you will be able to use your SD monitor with no problems. The camera has BNC, S-video, and RCA outs. Nikk Hearn-Sutton SOC
OK RIGHT PLACE!!! Lets try this again. I'm a Goof!!! :P If you can' laugh at yourself, everyone else will...Like you. Has anyone shot with the cannon XL H1 and if so does the hd/sd out automatically downconvert to sd or do you need a down converter for it. The reason why I might have a shoot with it coming up. I looked on cannon's site but gave no info about it. Thanks. Nikk "Flyin' Da Rig" Sutton Edited August 16, 2007 by NikkSutton

Premium Members Elliott Yancey Posted August 16, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 16, 2007 I own this camera and have been very happy with it. The BNC out with down-convert for you and has no effect on the HD-SDI out. I have an EFP so I fly the camera with an AB brick on the back. The extra five pounds allows the camera to weight enough for my rig without having to add a weight plate or cage. Make sure you turn the optical stabilizer off when you are flying the camera on steadicam or using it on a tripod because it will bring extra movement into the lens. Also the focus and zoom are controlled by servos so a wireless follow focus will not work with the stock lens. I have the P&S Technik mini 35 adapter and I have been very happy with the end result. The mini 35 balances nicely with the AB brick on the camera. Also never trust the EVF for focus, it may look OK in the EVF but it does not have a high enough resolution to show all the details. I have shot some personal projects that looked great in the EVF but when I got home it was soft on my HD screen. USE A FEILD MONITOR. Also you can download various settings for the camera from the internet. The custom presets are stored on the SD card. Finally the Audio sucks on the XLH1 so at least change the mic or better yet record separately. The shock mount for the mic is bigger than a standard shotgun mic so be prepared to adapt whatever mic you use to fit. (Gaff tape works fine). All in all a great camera and a lot of fun to fly. You can wear it for hours and never feel it. Let me know if you have any questions. -Elliott Yancey

I asked this prior when this cam first came out and I looked it back up to see what i got in response. As LBS I have 2 7lbs plates and with one plus the anton batt I have more than enought to balance and fly with ease. As in the focus ABSOLUTELY. I do not trust the on board to save my life. I'm going wireless vid asst an in the stabilizer, OFF never used it and never will on any cam. It tries to compensate and the frame moves. HATE IT. Thanks though.
