Carl Perkins
I am building a web site that is an online steadicam equipment store. I am posting now to get feedback from operators. I want to know if operators want a 24/7 online place to buy new steadicam gear. The site that is up now is a mock site that I put online while we finish the shopping cart for the actual site. I just wanted to get something online so I can get your comments and ideas on the site concept. There are many products that I don't have on the current site, what is there now really isn't representative of which products and manufacturers will actually be on the site. The site is http://www.steadistuff.com Please stop by and take a look. Thanks, Carl

Carl Perkins
I see over 100 visits have been made to this topic about steadistuff.com, thank you all for checking out my posting. Although many have stopped by this topic, I haven't received many comments about the site. Has anyone checked it out? If you have been to steadistuff.com, I could really use any short comments you have about it. The reason for the posting is to find out if operators would like to have an online store offering a large variety of steadicam gear, parts and pieces. This is not a cheap attempt to advertise the site. Please help with my fact finding mission. Even as little as a yes or no will really help me out. Thanks All! Premium Members Hervé Colosio Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 i think your project is a good idea , it's a quick way to find something and compare instantly different materials , a good way to know what exist . I?m not certain that complete rigs or arms , sleds are going to be sold with your site , operators want to check by themselves and test at the importation store or manufacturer , and then discus the price . the useful thing will be all the brackets , wireless focus and video systems , zoom control , rain covers , lcd monitors ,screws (it's funny but when you have a CP out from usa , you cant imagine the difficulty to find a little screw in inch) well detail pieces that you look several times over the net to find them . your site is the only one like that and it's a good help for operators that don?t have manufacturers at the corner of road . Premium Members geoff shotz Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 well done. i think it is a brilliantly done web idea. hope it becomes as useful as it seems. also hope there's no problems from the manufacturers themselves. geoff
Carl Perkins
Thanks Herve and Geoff, I like the positive response from operators. I am an owner/op myself and my own frustrations of find and buying some items are what got me to try building the site. I also assume that most of our business will be the brackets and add on electronics for sleds. But I want to include anything and everything I can get on the site, just to have products there for operators to browse. Our plan is also to encourage communication between the purchasing operators and the manufacturers, before a large or custom purchase is made. There will be manufacturer contact info and web site links in each product listing. As an operator, I know the value of talking with the maker to make sure my needs will be met, before making a purchase. SteadiStuff just wants to be a place to browse for available gear and a place to order 24/7 once you have made your decision to buy. Thanks again Herve and Geoff. Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 About the site: Long overdue as a place to inspect, educate and purchase. Great for "out-of-town" folks who are seeking a range of products and prices to choose from. How do I get some of my brackets on the site? I have some FF and low mode items as well as Antlers and the ACME Gimbal. Best, Brant S. Fagan, SOC Steadicam/Camera Operator Missing Something? Carl Perkins
Brant, I would love to put your brackets on the site. That is exactly the spirit of Steadistuff.com, to have a marketplace where anyone who makes a quality steadicam product will have a way to make it available to all operators. Send me an email at carlperkins@cox.net. I will send you a return email requesting information about your products. Thanks, Carl
Premium Members Edgar Colon Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 Great idea Carl!!! Waiting to buy stuff Don't forget to have carrier service to the Caribbean EDGAR PUERTO RICO
Nils Ruinet
Nice idea :) Don't forget the "cables" section ! For expensive stuff (let's say over US$ 1.000), I guess I would probably buy it directly from the manufacturer... But for all these accessories, such a shop would be great, if you are able to send the items quickly... Nils.
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 Yeah, I think you should mainly focus on accessories, cables, and parts. Full arms, vests, and sleds are good to show, but I think you should link people to the manufacturer when buying them instead of handling the sale yourself. Oh, and better check your prices. I know that this site is still in it's infancy, but I still am tempted to pay the $2 for the MK-V or Sachtler arms. :D

Carl Perkins
I have been working all day and just got to sit and respond to the comments from operators today. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Every comment is valuable and appreciated and will be taken into account when finalizing the first draft of the actual site. Another one of my reasons for starting this thread is to gather evidence to show manufacturers that operators want another option for researching and purchasing gear. Some of the manufacturers have asked not to be on the site. I hope your comments will change their minds and maybe they will give steadistuff.com a chance to list their gear too. Premium Members Dan Coplan Posted February 22, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2006 Even if certain items are not sold through your website, it would be great to have one site that serves as a reference for everything Steadicam. I think you should include not only the ability to order stuff through your site, but direct links to the manufacturers where more info can be obtained. Erwin Landau's 'Links' link on his site: landaucamera.com is a page I visit all the time because it's so thorough. It's also laid out in such a way that it's pretty easy to find what you're looking for without having to filter through pages.
