Thanks Emery,

I suppose against my stronger will that you could be right Eric, they are not playing ball. Is there however a point in the channel selection upwards where the main band whithin the increments match up nicely? (even if briefly) or am I clutching at straws?

Thanks a lot for your time in answering what may be considered a fairly obvious and trivial set of questions. The modulus seems such a perfect snap on Transimitng solution (short of spending/affording the canatrans) I really want it to work rather than my super sketchy cobbled together 2.4 ghz system.

At least with 2.4 ghz... It does not give a damn what its carrying, it will just modulate it as is or near abouts. NTSC in NTSC out PAL in PAL out . If I got a NTSC incremented Hermes reciever I would not be able to decode a PAL sent signal over a modulus. . . . .

Nope, the combo you have is not going to work. You need a Pal Transmitter to work with the PAL Receiver. Pretty much forget it with any NTSC Gear interfacing with PAL.

I managed to tune the household TV into my modulus! No problems!!!!!!!

SO... my theory is that because the channel increments are different they are obviously hitting different spots and my transvideo is picking up a slight sideband. The transvideo being a very high quality reciever is obviously very narrow band tuner. Hence it s just missing the spot!

Anybody want to buy a Hermes and a Pegasus? european models ?

What tuners do people recomend? I want something to fit in the back of my portabrace panasonic 7in setup

Cheers

Thomas

Thomas,

as you have found out the modulus do work with PAL, it transmits whatever signal you input. The problem comes when you use transvideo receivers, they have to be special ordered to fully work for the modulus. I have a Transvideo Hercules BG PAL unit for sale if you are interested.

Here is a link for their homepage.

Please remember one thing in this dsicussion - it's NOT the problem of the receiver - it's a problem with the transmitter NOT transmitting at the correct PAL frequency steps, hence the "special" order which is intended to conpensate for it. If your transmitter would transmit the correct PAL frenquencies it would be compatible with ALL the receiving equipment in your country WITHOUT modification. It's unfortunate when you have to "tweak" your system to compensate for the lack of standards that should be adhered too in the first place. It also makes it difficult when you get a transmitter on set that DOES transmit on the correct channels and then try to match it with a "modified" receiver.

eric- from experience, the modulus will work with a pal signal in and transmit it just a little bit off channel, but definitely usable. i used one in asia for over six months with a transvideo receiver. it took 4 receivers to find the one that worked the best, but it worked for the six months i was working there. and as i recall, just cheap handheld tv's and basic tuners worked even better.

Thanks Peter!

But my transvideo recievers are marked L/BG with a little switch on the side to select between the 2. I get a slightly ... ever so slight weak signal on the BG side and nothing at all on the L side. surely if your BG reciever works with the modulus my one should!

As Geof said... Its off to tottenham court road to buy a selection of cheap dodgy tuners that don t tune in increments!

What channels are you having best luck with Peter? I mean I really have tried them all but my recievers should be the same as yours L/BG and I don t understand why yours should work and not mine. ( I have 2 transvideo recievers so that rules out the old broken reciever problem)

thanks all

Eremy,

with all respect, the Modulus transmits ever video signal PAL and NTSC.

The problem is not the Transmitter alone. It is the combination of both.

Every receiver where you can dial the frequency is able to receive the Modulus.

Only receivers working with country specific cannel/frequency combinations (it is not about PAL or NTSC) have problems catching the signal but it is possible to get a decent picture on a channel near by. Only here it helps that the Modulus is a dirty transmitter. Even the combination Modulus -> Sony miniDV GV-D PAL video walkman with the Sony receiver for japanese channels works.

Thomas,

only the Transvideo receiver with Modulus/BG option match exactly the Modulus channels. Try to find the signal one to four channels up or down.

My 2 cents.

The L/BG receiver is not optimized for the modulus. You need the Modulus/BG version (the one I have). I tried about 5 different channels between ch 40-60 and they all worked fine. I no longer own a modulus so I can´t do any further testing.

If you change your mind I´d be happy to send you my receiver and you can try it out yourself and either return it if you are not satisfied, or pay for it if you like to keep it.

Eremy,

my apologies. You where right it IS ABOUT PAL and NTSC.

I phoned a technician at Arri Munich who rebuild 50 Sony TVG receiver units to make them PAL compatible. He told me that the PAL and NTSC signals not only differs in in channel separation generating the channel offset, it's also different in it's modulation which frequency is used for color, picture and sound. The modified tuners work with the Modulus because the Modulus transmits no sound signal and it sends the PAL signal over 6 channels. He recommended the TGV only short distance, for long distance it should be a regular PAL receiver.

I hope this makes sense and is right this time.

It's Emery :) (not Eremy)

No worries - see how RF gets so easily complicated.

just wondering if anybody has experienced record interference on a sdx 900 while using a modulus 3000,the transmitter was located at the back of the camera,i replayed the tape and it was full of digital breakup, like lots of different bars running up and down the screen,i used the same camera 2 days prior without the transmitter and had no problems,so do you think it was the transmitter or the record heads went into the crap*#^% MARK"HEADS GONE WILD" MORGAN

I used the SDX900 with a modulus 3000 mounted on top of the camera for about 10 hours with no problems. Maybe it's because you were a bit congested that day or I'm thinking you didn't talk nice to it. Nobody likes a pissed off Modulus!

well my apologies to cit modulus,it was the playback deck that had the congested heads,so alittle cough medicine and some good ol' alcohol and a a nice pat on the back and it was all good!!!!!!! thanks chris and aloha
