Modulus pix

I will look into this when I get the time:

http://www.eiwa-es.de/Video%20Produkte/VATsystem.php

The thing that makes me suspicious is the low price: 1000 Euro (about US$ 1250) for both sender and diversity receiver, but if it works...

Hi,

I'd be interested in any feedback concerning this device too (VAT boy)...

Looks very nice for its price !

But does it work well ? Is it reliable ?

Has anybody ever tried it ?

Thanks,

Nils.

Not totally true, The Modlus is a RF nightmare that is VERY poorly designed. There are units (lot's of Units) that no matter what antenna, channel and reciver you use you are still not going to get a usuable signal.

Having said that My Modulus 3000 is for sale. It was recently serviced by CIT East. Make me a offer...

I guess in this case I got Lucky... twice.

But, Don't get me wrong, I still don't care for CIT's costumer service... that is the only reason I have two.

I don't think that here is the place to advertise a product by it's manufacturerer.

We already have enough advertising as it is on this website.

A product should be suggested by a fellow operator that used it... not by a manufacturerer that has alternative motives... to sell a product.

(And sorry, but most people will tell you anything to sell something.)

The question was to solve a modulus problem... not to replace it.

I have 2 modulee (spelling) they work fine for me. I know of people that can't stand them... the same thing with the canatrans. I know people that love it and some that don't. (I didn't have the chance to try it yet... on set, I played around with it...)

That is up to the individual to decide...

I don't see a reason to buy something for twice the money to get something that I already have... most of the time it's a problem with the antenna... wrong one or poor placement... wrong channel selection, bad or wrong receiver, etc.

My set up that most of the time works great:

Modulus 3000 (low serial number, no voltage regulator BS)

Rubber ducky antenna

XCS TR-1 receiver

CIT Sharkfin Antenna

So much from me,

Fly safe,

Erwin

Hi Erwin;

I am sorry you misunderstood my willingness to help as advertising. This is most certainly not as what I had in mind!

I sell what I have designed. I have the only interest in solving technical problems that have repeatedly come to my attention over the 12 years that I have been in business. I am here to support those customers of mine as well as those that may become customers in the future. I also have the responsibility to make options aware to those that may previously not have had the time to discover viable alternatives.

Let me assure you and others reading this of one thing - I will NEVER TELL YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE ANYTHING JUST TO SELL YOU SOMETHING. I have never done this in twelve years nor am I about to start now. My company is based on integrity and technical competence with customers based around the globe, most of which will attest to my statement.

Hi Erwin and Emery, how are you guys?

Last week, I got to hang out with Emery at the New York Cine Equipment show for two days, as his booth was next to Arri's booth where I was demoing the 235. Day one, I walked over and said (with a smile) something akin to "so let me see this new transmitter that is too big, too heavy, and too expensive that everyone is raving about." Well, what can I say? I was very impressed. I won't go over the features again as that has been done in another thread by those who own units. I will say that Emery is a very nice fellow who knows his stuff, and I can tell that he is the sort of fellow that I want to do business with. Moreover, I saw the insides of his wonderful transmitter - no wires! Yes, inside you'll find nothing but state-of-the-art circuit boards intelligently laid out all covered with a big fat shield to minimize RF leakage all over the place. Very nicely done, indeed.

Now, lets get back to answering Peter's questions the best we can (but if it is not too late to return your unit for a refund - I think you said it was new - then I would consider doing this and buying a Canatrans).

Cheers,

I replaced the receiver with a new Transvideo Hercules and now it works a lot better, but I´m gonna stick with the 2,4 Ghz system as the PQ on that is better. I guess it can cope with the poor image from the videotap better than the modulus. Thank you all for your input on this problem.

I'm doing a feature right now with a Panvised F900. I've been having some transmitter issues and I'm hoping for some help. On a couple of occassions over the last 10 days I've had times when I just couldn't get a signal from my Modulus, no matter where I put the antenna. Most of the time the signal has been rock solid, but on these occassions it just goes away completely. On one of these occassions we were in a medium sized room and the other we were outside. Sometimes it's fine until I pick up the rig, at which point it goes away completely. I'm flying two wireless receivers for sound, and I'm thinking that this may be part or all of the problem. Sound seems to ALWAYS need to use the receivers, so it's been hard to test the signal with the receivers off. I tried moving the Modulus farther away from the receivers, but it made no difference. The times the signal has been good we've been using sound's receivers as well, so I'm a bit stumped. I checked the cable and all is fine. So far, voodoo is the only explanation I've been able to provide. I know many of you have had problems like these in the past, so I'm looking for some help on what else to try to fix the problem. By the way, we don't have an NTSC monitor, so we're using the HD monitor to view the wireless signal. My 2nd AC is an electronics whiz and says that this monitor needs a really strong signal or else it won't sync. Is it possible that this is the issue?

Thanks

Have you been able to try a CanaTrans from a local LA rental facility as a sanity check against your Modulus and set-up in general?

The CanaTrans will do sound and you can vary the video and audio gain to suit your application. Let me know if I can help...

Hi all,

Quick question: Is the Modulus 2000 compatible with 24V as the 3000??

On my show we have a Canatrans for A camera, Modulus 3000 for B camera & my Modulus 2000 for Steadicam. So far the video assist guy has told me that the 2000 performs just as good as the Canatrans, but the 3000 on my B camera is a piece of overpriced paper weight.

So I want to use the 2000 when I'm on B, but the power cable I use from my rig can't be used on the camera, so it would have to be powered by the SRIII (24V).

I found it very curious, and it seems that the Modulus is more a question of luck as they can perform quite differently.

Does anybody know what the differences are between the 2000 and the 3000?

And as far as the 24V goes, I just want to make sure that the 2000 won't fry, as we all know the stelar service we can get...

Hi all,

Quick question: Is the Modulus 2000 compatible with 24V as the 3000??

*************************************************

MDULUS 2000 is a 12V system. Some have been modified with a 24V upgrade, identified by a pan-head screw on the left edge of the box. 12 or 24V is active to different contacts on the HIROSE 6-pos connector. Pin 3 = 12V, pin 5 = 24V, so if yer cables are wired properly, you can't "blow it up"

*************************************************

So I want to use the 2000 when I'm on B, but the power cable I use from my rig can't be used on the camera, so it would have to be powered by the SRIII (24V).

*************************************************

Why not use the 11-pin Fischer 12V accessory port rather than the 24V RS port??

No, I haven't tried the Canatrans yet, although I'd like to. Unfortunately, it's very doubtful that production would be willing to rent one on this job, so I guess I'll have to wait. Which rental houses currently have them for rent?

Some of them are Otto's, Camera House, Keslow Camera.

regards

some monitors do need a really strong synch signal to work. So long as the synch is there the rest of the image can be bad or good with no problems. Some monitors (sony clamshell etc) have a squelch type circuite, like when you don t hear the white noise when releasing the button on a walky talky. which makes the image jump around twice as much when the synch signal goes wrong.

Try and use a Time Base Corrector on the signal out from your reciever

something like this http://www.vtx.co.uk/video/tbchq.htm

You will probably find that your rental house does keep them. Other wise your techie there will get one in for you. It should not be too hard to get.
