Can anyone confirm for me if the M1 stage will accept Pro standard dovetail plates? Im wondering if I can keep my XCS and Alexa plates if I switch to an M1

Thanks in advance!

Brad.

Yes indeed, but depending on tolerances, you may need to adjust the tension ever so slightly; easy to do.

Thanks Jerry!

There are some important caveats to the compatibility of PRO plates in an M1 Stage, however. Namely, the M1 stage is taller than many PRO plates. If you are using a standard PRO or similarly designed plate, which is about .270" (just over 1/4" or 6mm) thick, the locking mechanism of the stage may be taller than the plate, and if you have a wide camera body or other wide items, they may interfere with the stage locking mechanism and not work. Tiffen's plates that come with the M1 are just under 1/2" thick, which is more than is needed, but shows that very thin plates may not clear. I believe the XCS plates will fit as they are so much taller, but as I haven't used one on my M1, I cannot say for certain.

Thanks, Tom. I was thinking only about the dovetail width, apologies.

Brad - Tiffen plates are .400 inches high; but there is another issue using non-Tiffen plates: The safety system to keep a loose plate from sliding fully off is a couple of 4-40 socket head screws protruding from the bottom of the plate at each end. If your plates are tall enough to clear (.400 or more), you may still have to add the safety screws. It's not a big deal to add them, and it's cheaper than buying new plates.

For your PRO plates that are .270 high, adding a sheet of 1/8 inch aluminum as a spacer might also be solution to keep your old plates.

Depending on the XCS plates you have (there are a few variations) they might not fit the M1. The dovetail face might not be high enough. It depends on how wide the vertical part of the plate is.

Hello,

I don't know if all XCS plate fit on M1 top stage,

but as you can see on the pictures my XCS plate (standard version bought in 2017 ) perfectly fit on my M1 top stage :-)

I see the XCS plate also has the Tiffen-style safety screw; see first pix. I assume there is one on the front.

Gregory, are these standard on XCS or did you add them later?
