Cheers -matt They will be using RF cameras of some description. Rf cameras (sony for example) can be analoge or digital transmission, and are designed to tie straight into an OB. Premium Members James Puli Posted March 22, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 22, 2006 G'day all. I am currently working on the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Good call Brad. The cameras are RF cameras (D Links or something similar) provided by Gear House Broadcast. The only problem with these systems as I have said in another post in another topic, is that they tend to break up when you walk around corners or under things. We've had huge technical probelms with them and rarley (at least at the swimming where I am) have we ever had talley lights and dont even think about talkbacks. As far as I know the Steadicam Ops who are operating here are Glen Steer (does all the swimming at most world champs, Olympics etc) and Dale Henderson is doing some on the Marathon and Mountain bikes mouonted to a 6 wheeler, as well as a couple of network guys scattered around the place. I know at the Swimming there are about 6 guys who are Steadicam Operators who are operating normal cameras as well. And its the same at a number of other events from what I have herd. Im working with the Polecam which has had its own complete sets of problems which are driving us all nuts so I havent been taking too much notice of the Steadicams. Hugo is here as Tech Support at the Aquatics and there is another couple of people and rigs at some of the other events Pics no probs will take some and post them when done. They are the latest in link technology and allow for more latitude when moving around. Vital Image and myself, won the job to supply 2 Steadyrig rigs to the coverage using my 2 assistants, Sean Perry and Hugo Langer. We also supplied as a full package of kit, zoom controls, Tally ligfhts etc...as well as enginerring support in the form of Hugo. Glen Steer and Garry Janson operated my 2 Steadyrig rigs, while Dale Henderson did the marathon and mountain biking. A great job and lots of fun. Premium Members James Puli Posted April 8, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 8, 2006 Sorry about this guys, but I had a problem with my digi camera and a long story short ended up losing a whole memory card full of photos which just happened to be from the comm games. Sorry about this, not sure if Andy or Hugo took any but will try and find some to show you the setup. I have only now recovered from the games. We did over 200 hours in 16 days straight. The longest day we did was like 20 hours and the shortest was about 8. Was a huge job, I saw daylight at my house once, but was great fun at the same time. Andy Stankovich (Vital Image) in collaboration with Hugo (Steadyrig) with a total of 5 rigs which included backups, incorporated Dale Henderson, Glenn Steer, Sean Perry and Garry Janson. We covered the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, track & field, marathon, mountain bike events and all the swimming events. Dale Henderson and myself did the Marathon from our rigs which were hard mounted from the back of Toyota RAV4's. The Links were ABC MiniCam's digital links which beamed up to the chopper > building > OB truck. Those ABC guys are freaks! (good freaks) The links worked pretty much perfectly as we were leading the runners through and around the buildings and streets of the city of Melbourne.
