Brad Smith Posted March 30, 2006 Report Share Posted March 30, 2006 I have a conundrum I'm sure one of you has had before me and solved already. I don't want to attach my BFD reciever to my sled permanently (I mosly do TV work and it's not always required), I'd like a solution that allows me to attach the BFD to the dovetail plate rails/rods so it can be easily attached and removed. I have an XCS plate as well as PRO style plate with 15mm rods to mount all of the FF gear on. Problem is I ordered a matte box rod mounting bracket from Jim, but unfortunatley when it arrived I discovered that matte box rails are not the same distance apart as those on the dovetail plates (which are the same). Does anybody make a bracket to attach the BFD reciever to the dovetail plate rails? Any other solutions/suggestions :unsure: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tom Gleeson (www.cinewidgets.com) makes a great mounting bracket for the bartech to Pro dbox. If you want something less permanent id try a combination of velcro and/or thick elastic bands. I'll be eventually gettting a steadyrig topstage (as seen in another thread) when they have thier first production run (everybody feel free to get those orders in!). I'll be able to use a preston bracket on that topstage. I'm just trying to avoid having to get the allen keys out every time to attach the bfd to the sled, plus the thread in the aluminium of the little bracket supplied with the bfd won't last. I think maybe a bit of a mod to a preston bracket and velcro might sort me out. I've tried to attach pics of the rods and the bracket I was hoping to use, the idea is right, I would just have to find someone who wants to make a smaller version of the Bartech version... Hi Brad, Wow, I had no idea they had made the stage dovetails a different spacing than ARRI/Aaton standard. Believe it or not this is the first I've heard of it and I've shipped 50+ of these. FYI, this bracket is made for me by Tom Gleason and the right angle part of it that attaches to the receiver is the PRO mounting bracket. If you don't want to go the machist route, here's a quick fix I figured out that only requires some longer screws. I guess how easy it is depends on how easily you can access imperial (non-metric) screws. Remove the two clamping pieces from each other and from the right angle PRO bracket. Using two #6-32 x 5/8" machine screws attach the bottom clamping piece upside down, so the notches for the rods face the bracket. The included screws will be too short because there are no countersinks on this side. Reverse the top piece as well so the notches are facing up and reconnect it to the bottom piece using two #10-32 x 1" thumbscrews. The incuded thumbscrews will be slightly too sort to allow 15mm clearance. You now have two flat, non-notched clamping surfaces facing the rods. Brad Smith Posted April 2, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 2, 2006 Thanks Jim, you are indeed the Puzzle master, I've had that bracket for a week now, feel a bit like I've been sitting inside the box thinking about the box! never thought of rearanging the pieces. I'm thinking I'm going to use some of that Dual Lock from 3m for a while then maybe I'll get another bracket made up here in Oz. Thanks all for your thoughts, once again Mr Bartell has proven why he is the idea's man, and most of us should stick to operating!!
