Zephyr Vest - Socket Block to Center Spar Issue

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I'm having a little issue with my Zephyr vest, the pin that pops in and out of the holes from the socket block to the center spar has come off my vest. I’ve attached photos, let me know if this is something that could be fixed by myself or if I need to bring my vest in. The knob that tightens the socket block to the center spar still works, so I should be good to go in the mean time.

Update: Took the vest to Tiffen in Burbank and they replaced the pin. They told me I could fly without the pin as the nut that tightens the socket block to the center spar is what counts on the Zephyr vest.

They also tightened the 6 bolts in the picture above to make the socket block hold tighter on the center spar.

Hope this helps anyone in the future!!!

wow, i literally just emailed tiffen about the same exact issue. but my tightening knob is not nearly strong enough to maintain the block height without collapsing down to the lowest setting, so the vest is useless to me at the moment.

visiting burbank isn't an option for me, do you think the pin replacement is something I could do if they ship me the part?

I think you could fix it on your own if they send you the part. If the bolt isn't holding it in place, be sure to tighten the 6 bolts in the picture above to make the socket block hold tighter on the center spar. That should help too

Hello, I have a similar issue as you, but I have two broken pull pins. How can I replace the larger one located on the upper part of the vest?! Thanks so much.

I believe those pins need to be pressed into place so I was unable to fix at home. I took the vest apart and mailed it to Tiffen for repair

It is very limiting for me in terms of geography and time when I send it to Tiffen. I am proposing a solution by replacing the damaged component and sending it to a mechanical service provider to replace it for me, at vietnam.
