Who Wants to be a Moderator?

Tim Tyler

Recommended Posts

I don't spend as much time as I should managing this forum's content, so I was thinking it would make sense to see if any of you regular users might be interested in moderating.

A moderator would be able to edit, move, and remove posts forum-wide. A moderator should be an impartial user who typically visits the forum daily.

Please nominate yourself or someone else by replying in this thread.

If you object to anyone nominated, please email or PM me with your concerns. All communications will be kept private.

How many moderators were you thinking of?

I don't have the experience of most ops in this board, but I visit the Forum daily, and have spent enough time on various places around the net to want to protect this place, without being too eager to jump in every time people disagree.

Hi Everybody,

I would love to help out, if most people are okay with that...

But I also second Eric's suggestion, makes for a more inpartial moderator (team). Also what If I get a feature and can't make sure that I can spend enough time everyday to check/edit the days postings... same for the other guys/girls.

3 would be a good number... we just have to come up with a way that not all 3 at the same time move stuff around that could lead to some confussion... / lost posts or worse. (One rule, they have to be sustaining members in good standing).

And then we need some guidelines on what constitutes a post that has to be edited, moved or removed.

For sale adds and unsolocited advertizing of 3rd parties is clear... (If they can't pay $40.- as a once contribution... they shouldn't sell anything) ...but after that. (They should be warned and repeat offenders dismissed).

Also if you are a company and want to run an add... buy a banner add... Don't run your pitch as an answer to a post, that should be the privilege of a costumer/user/operator and not a manufacturer with an agenda to sell... (does not include reviews or new product anouncements...)

I would add any or all (new) posts that are not signed with a real name, if you have nothing to hide sign your post. (Remember the AOL folders and the slander on the account of Ted Churchill...)

Language: Watch yours and write in English... Yes it's an international Forum but I'm sure that a couple of people would be offended if not pissed to loose out on information if I (or any others) would start to post in any of my native languages (Serbien, German, Slovenien or French)... right?

Warn people about individuals and comanies but don't bash'em, Okay?

Also helps to know where they are from and who you are talking to... makes no sence to send them to BandPro in LA, when they're in South Africa, is it?

I believe that many newbies are afraid to post there real name because of getting made fun of or the likes... If you think that your question could result in that... post in the newbies section. Nobody should make fun of somebody else because of the question, experience, or equipment they use... hell I'm still a newbie compared with most other Operators...

But then again the new operators shouldn't get offended by replies, If you can't take the answer don't ask... then again if you only want to insult a person... DON"T answer/reply! (Saves Webspace).

Also Keep in mind that most operators here on the Forum (at least it used to be) are making there living with the Steadicam profession and are PROFESSIONALS! Mostly working in a Hollywood "On set" setting. The answers will reflect what we learned in that setting and the equipment used and answers given will refelect that...

PROFESSIONALS!

Pro's act that way and newbies accept the answer.

...Or refraze the question with enough background so that you get the answers you are looking for. (Questions like: "What's the Best Rig, Follow Focus, etc" will result in answers like PRO and Preston... sorry thats the reality. Because that's what we use and that's what we learned to rely on...)

I hope that all this input would make for a better Forum experience and get some of the old pro's back online... You can't even imagine what you are loosing out on...

And that would make for a Forum that I would love to visit more often and contribute more often! I'm sure others as well...

Just food for thoughts,

If you, after this post, still want me to be a moderator, I would love to.

Post Safe,

Erwin

In addition to Erwin and Alec, I'd like to suggest Jamie Silverstein and Charles Papert. Both of them always seem to have level heads and don't get involved in the bickering.

I think three or four moderators is the minimum considering the odd schedules we all keep. There may be times when a moderator can't check the forum for weeks at a time if he/she is working.
