Premium Members Marc Abernathy Posted April 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 i threw my name in the hat when this site went online, so im down to help. i already admin over at http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php , the largest site to date for converged devices (shamless plug i know but if you guys want info on the latest converged phones, head there..) so i know the lay of the land in modding. i dont think we neccessarily need someone who is the top op to mod, we just need someone who will dedicate a lot of time on the site and keep threads and posts properly pruned and in the correct location(s). the top ops will (hopefully!!) continue to post regardless of what mod we have, but i do agree we need more of them and i appreciate tim for stepping up and acknowleging this. if only top A list ops are mods for example, they may be on assignment for days, weeks at a time and if this happens the site will be open to issues, so i would mix it up with other ops who can dedicate the time. im more of B list operator so i probably have more time than A listers such as eric or erwin for example. just my opinion, YMMV... Premium Members jay kilroy Posted April 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 In addition to Erwin and Alec, I'd like to suggest Jamie Silverstein and Charles Papert. Both of them always seem to have level heads and don't get involved in the bickering. I think three or four moderators is the minimum considering the odd schedules we all keep. There may be times when a moderator can't check the forum for weeks at a time if he/she is working. I agree with Brad, both excellent choices. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 12, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 Okay. Wow - the hot topic of the day. Yes, several moderators are a must. "President?" I think not; more of an administrative assistant doing clerical work (Brad, no worries, I know you were joking). A moderator is not to take sides (as much as they may be tempted), but to help keep a tidy house, placing posts in the correct category & only eliminating the entirely inappropriate (classifieds in the wrong place, unwarranted ads, personal slander, etc.). Usually these matters ought to be clear, but alas they are not always depending on the situation. Certainly, individuals and companies alike have the right to express opinions and ideas, but at what point does this cross the line into solicitation and advertisement? Yes, several moderators are a must. I hate to drag geography into this, considering the objective nature the job requires, but lets face it, points of view are often subjective. I hastily suggest an East Coaster, a West Coaster (USA), and a European, but what of our fine Canadian brethren? On and on.... Food for thought. Lets not go crazy here though or nothing will be settled. Point is - calm heads, Tim's valuable input and YES, several people guiding the way. Premium Members Stephen Murphy Posted April 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 Coming to this thread a bit late but id certainly add my vote for Erwin, Alec, Jamie and Charles. And id throw David A. Groves name into the hat too. Both he and Dan K. have done a lot with the steadicam guild and might be interested in helping out here. Either way a team of moderators is a great idea and i think Erwins already off to a flying start with his list of suggestions. Premium Members Bill Powers Posted April 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 I, too, think that a team is the best way to go. I like the guys that are on an even keel. My vote goes for Erwin, Eric, Alec, Jamie and Charles. All have and share valuable information with the rest of us. Many thanks to Tim for his past,(and future), work. Free John's sled. Tim Tyler
I've just given moderator privileges to: Alec Jarnagin, Efletcher, and Erwin Landau. You won't see "Moderator" attached to your accounts anywhere, but feel free to add it to your signatures so people know. As Moderators, you'll see a 'Moderations Options' menu at the bottom of all threads. I don't think a 'Moderator's Guide' is available, but I'll see what I can find. Moderators can edit topic titles; edit and delete posts; view IP addresses; open, close, pin and move topics; and can warn users. One note about 'Language: Watch yours and write in English... Yes it's an international Forum...' IMO, English should not be required in this forum. I've even thought about creating regional sub-forums here and on the Cinematography.com forum so that users from other parts fo the world can communicate amongst themselves. Obviously writing in a non-English language that most forum members will not understand may limit your ability to get a response, but I don't see a need to make that illegal. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 13, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted April 13, 2006 Yes, thank you Tim. I've always loved this forum and think it is a great resource. It is a privilege to help out in anyway I can. Cheers,
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted April 13, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 13, 2006 Hi Tim, Thank you for the the fast action/responce to the issues that arose on the forum... And thank you for your effort. Language: It was just a suggestion. As said english is not my first language but its the prevailing one on this and most forums. I'm okay with that but the poster extremally limits his answers he will receive. And it deprives most of the other users of a great question or answer for that matter. Also how can one monitor the responce if he can't understand/read it? Just a thought. (Other idea... how about a translation program? as an addition when you post/read...) Thank you Tim and all the other operator for your trust, Fly safe, Erwin
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted April 13, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 13, 2006 Tim, Again thanks I'd like to request that we have a Forum just for the three mods so that we can blog what we have done. That we if we see a trend we can discuss it between the three of us.

Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 14, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted April 14, 2006 Tim, Again thanks I'd like to request that we have a Forum just for the three mods so that we can blog what we have done. That we if we see a trend we can discuss it between the three of us. This might be a good idea. I just moved a conversation on the Batech from "Monitors" to "Follow Focus." I left a forwarding link, but in hind sight I should have just moved it. With a blog, we'll know what the others have done & why (so we can get on the same page). I haven't spent as much time on the forum (just started back up really). Working and with new baby keeps me busy. I'm sure Dan would have apprecriated your vote as well. I still don't think he comes to this forum but I'll let him know. I'm sure Alec, Erwin and Eric will do a fine job. Between the three there will be good balance and fairness. Hopefully there won't be any more sillyness!
