Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted April 14, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2006 Chris, is that sarcastic??? After only 6 hours of posting? I hope not. Anyway, it was my first thought how much possibilities this would have, when combined. That was at the introduction at the IBC, last year (or was it the year before?) I would love to try it once, but I fear that Thailand is just too low budget to make anything like this (Segway or AR) economical.
Christopher TJ McGuire SOC
Howdo! I think I was amazed at my own enthusiasm for the HFT! Best Chris.
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted April 14, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2006 Yes, Chris, it looks fantastic and I am sure you can do cool stuff with it. I am just concerned about safety. Look at my last shoot, with the big ZORB balls. We used a quad there and i am sure it could be done with a HFT as well, but I am afraid that the speed of things happening and your own speed at that moment might be dangerous. As always, directors want it faster-faster, in this case we we starting alongside and as the balls get on speed he wanted a more frontal shot, that means overtaking something that is already fast. I would not be happy if I have to do that all on my own, framing specially in DJ-position, accellerating and braking at the end (for the trees) and avoiding the bumps in the terrain. it´s all very possible on their own, but when combined...... <_< The problem might arise that the producer and director EXPECT you to do that, since they pay for the machine too. Christopher TJ McGuire SOC
You're right about the safety aspect of the machine and the fact that directors wouldnt appreciate the awkwardness of operation. But, I think used in the right environments it would be a very useful tool. I was very sceptical about the HFT when I first saw it, but having spent some time with it, I can see its potential, for specific shots, moreso live events. With the Hard mount system operating will be alot easier. As with all new equipment there will be a lead time in integration to the marketplace. I personally am very excited about the stage we're at in new equipment development! its just taking time to get the creatives juiced up!! Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted April 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 I found out today that the workshop website is alive and kicking MK-V Training, there's some pictures and video on there too. It does look like a great experience, especially with the AR, Quad and Crane stepoff, I'll have to start saving up. There's some great looking AR stuff on there too Chris, it looks stunning. Premium Members Mike Marriage Posted April 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 The workshop was great. Thanks a lot to Chris and Howard for running it. It covered a really wide range of techniques and was very hands-on. I found the HFT to be suprising intuitive and more stable than it looks. Granted, I didn't take it anywhere near top speed though. mattmarek
i think MK-V stands for 'mark 5' ?
Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted May 2, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 2, 2006 Howard had a 3A that he heavily adapted and customised into a 'Mark 4' and hence the evolution to his rig design today, 'Mark 5' - MK-V ...or something like that ;)
