Hey Guys!

Im stepping up from a shitty rig to a more decent one, but I dont have the money to invest more then 15K.
Im flying mostly Alexa minis and REDs.. between 20-25 setups. The Glidecam X-30 peaks my interest, but I can't find that many reviews on this system.

Does any of you steadicam fellas have suggestions for a proper investment in my financial range?
Anyone have experience with the Glidecam X-30?

There’s a couple Master sleds for sale for around $11-12k. Definitely look into those first. They’re great rigs if they’re in good condition.

Hi Nick,

I'm not a "fella" (your language matters - please consider your audience), though I suggest finding a solid used system from a reputable seller within your price range. Also consider accessories: batteries, cables, a stand and/or cart, cases/bags and some way to organize everything in them; those expenses quickly add up.

Have you taken a workshop? That's a great way to get your hands on different rigs (the SOA workshop in particular has a wide variety of gear lately), and network with other operators who may be selling rigs. Personally, I was glad I invested in a workshop before a rig, because it allowed me to try several types of vests, and ultimately my first sled. The connections I made there have been invaluable, and have helped me in some way on every job I've had since.

Hey Lisa!

you are definitely not a 'fella' and I apologize for my bad language. My excuse is that im not a native english speaker and I say 'dude' and 'guys' to girls here as well... I guess its an LA thing and I will never ever generalize on this forum anymore. You are the best!

So yes I have taken a workshop and I've tried a few different rigs. (not the SOA one you are mentioning tho) I already bought a master series arm. I worked with that arm a while ago and will never forget the great experience I had with that. I have a vest that i really like but all I need right now is a solid Sled.

Thanks your advice

Hi Nick,

Thank you! Diversified perspectives are what makes this community strong.

Great that you've taken a workshop and already have an arm and vest you're happy with. You'll have plenty of good options for a used sled for $15K - keep an eye on the forum and Facebook groups, and try to check out the sled in person before you buy it, especially if it's a brand or model you haven't used before.

Good luck!

Lisa

Forget about Glidecam. If you’re talking a decent rig for that budget, 15K is not a huge amount of money when we’re talking Steadicam systems really. Take a look at either the Zephyr, or the Aero 30 might also be within your weight limit. I would definitely not go with Glidecam, I doubt there are many Glidecam operators out there..

Hi Nick

Not sure if you're still looking for a rig... I started with a Glidecam X20 a few years ago and loved it. Of course, Steadicam or Sachtler products give you a bit more flexibility, more connectors etc. But it works just fine and the gimbal is really great.

I still use a Glidecam sled (X45), but changed the vest and arm to Steadicam (G50x and LX vest) - I don't have any complaints about the Glidecam sled. Really solid build quality.

You can pack a Mini or RED on the X20, although it gets really close to the maximum weight capacity...

I'm selling the X20, as I didn't use it for the past few months - hit me up if you're interested :) Looking for around 2500 Dollars (plus shipping).

All the best
Raphi
