Premium Members Tomas Antonsson Posted April 17, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2006 Where to get two 7 inch (18 cm) carbon fibre rods to a Clipper 2. The original battery rods are little bit too long for my most use but I don't wanna cut the original ones. Maybe aluminium is an alternative because it's hard the find carbon fibre in right size. The rods have to be exactly 15,7 mm thick to fit. Tiffen sell ONE 12" carbon fibre rod for $200.

Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted April 18, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2006 Hi Tomas Antonsson, Nice to meet you. I remembered that Larry McConkey had issues with his Ultra. He was not happy with his Carbon rods so he replaced them with Panavision Iris Rods, which are 5/8" or 0.625" which is 15.875mm. That is nominal as everything seams to be slitly undersize here, it should come in close to your 15.7mm. As the clippers is virtually the same rig as the Ultra, minus considerably Accessories, it should fit as well. As you said Carbon fibre rods are hard to come by. Especially in Europe. The only ones I know that would carry something like that would be ARRI and Chrosziel... But I dought that they will carry American standard sizes... but you could ask. The cheaper aproach would be to get some standard aluminum Arm posts (3A or PRO style maybe Sachtler???). GPI-PRO sells them for $25.- for 4", 6" and 8" lengths. Close enough? $50.- bucks for 2 plus shipping, not to bad. As the Gimbal will not (usually) fit on a standard 5/8 spud they have to be under size... Give it a try, Hope that helps, Good luck, Erwin

Premium Members Guido Lux Posted April 20, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi guys1 I bought a 2 metre carbon fibre (15,mm) at a kite-store for about $30. The best and cheapest way and they work like a charm!I use them instead of the regular aluminum ones for motors and mattebox! Premium Members Anders Holck Petersen Posted April 22, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 22, 2006 I have a friend that got rods from this guy: http://www.dandiaconu.com/newweb/carbon_rods.htm You can get one 16" carbon rod for $20 and cut it into two 8", or you could ask him if he can do it. If you cut them yourself be sure to use protection, carbon dust is nasty.
