Premium Members Gordon Li-Ron Posted April 20, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hey, I posted this earlier in general discussions. I'm feeling that it wasn't the right category to post in since I didn't get a reply. Hope I didn't piss anyone off...Sorry about that. I blanked on that but I'm reposting it here. Any info would be great. thanks. I have an Anton Bauer INTERACTIVE MP4D charger which I was using with digital pro pacs. I was wondering if anyone knows if this charger can charge the hytron 50s. thanks gordon
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted April 20, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 20, 2006 That would be actually a question for Anton Bauer directly... But: That is an older Charger way before the Hytrons (NmHi) where available, I would say that the charger will only charge NiCad batteries. The best thing would be just put a Hytron on it and see if the charger recognizes the battery, if not it only will refuse to charge it and will not damage the battery. I would say for sure not. Also usually it's just a software update, I believe they only made it available starting with the 2000 series chargers. Sorry, I thing you should look for a new charger (2701,2702,2722 or any Titan series). Good Luck, Erwin
Premium Members Marc Abernathy Posted April 20, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 20, 2006 ya hytrons are a new breed and thus require a new way to recharge them. i dont think anything older than the 2000 (and interactive model) series will charge the hytrons. there is a new software update that AB sells. the kit is around 50 bux. paul dudeck hangs out here every so often and yo ucan find his login on the member list here.. i think its "pauld" but dont quote me. you could go to AB site and locate his info and cal him. he is a very nice chap. easiest way to get info quick is to search the archives... pauls info is on some of his posts.... Todd Ferguson
I got some info from Anton Bauer awhile back and if the charger is serial #8000 or higher it can be upgraded. How I don't know? So it would charge nickel metal hydride no lithium ion's. I guess it would still charge nickel cadium also. I would check with Anton Bauer to be sure. Hope this is helpful, Todd F. Premium Members Gordon Li-Ron Posted April 21, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 21, 2006 Hey guys, thanks for the info. I'll get in contact with paul from Anton Bauer and see what I can do to upgrade the charger. 50 bucks sounds pretty good. I did however manage to get my hands on a hytron 50 just a couple of hours ago. The battery was fully charged but as i put it on my charger, the LCD display read hytron 50. Even though that isn't a real test since the battery was already charged...I'm wondering if that is a good sign since the charger understood which battery it was talking too. I wasn't ablle to fully test it because I needed to return it. I'll post again with more results. thanks gordon

Unfortunately the MP4 can't be upgraded to charge Hytrons or Dionics. In fact he said that particular model of charger stopped being sold in 1991! The cheapest charger options that I could find (short of getting lucky on ebay) was to buy one of the Titan Twin travel chargers. They'll charge every chemistry and will supply camera power if needed. Good Luck! (edited for spelling)
Premium Members Marc Abernathy Posted April 21, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 21, 2006 yes the titan is a good bang. small and compact for those short jobs. it was all there was when AB came out with the dionics! mostly everyone with the 2000 series had older software which didnt charge the packs... i think eric had an issue way back and he only could used the titan charger... contact paul dudeck at AB> they have some "B" stock / demo units for a little cheaper than MSRP. he also has some batteries as well. they may even swap your old charger (with some additional money) towards a newer charger... worth the call/email... (he is really good at returning emails! very fast! within the same day).
