Zachary Stanke Posted January 17, 2020 Report Posted January 17, 2020 Hi Guys, So I’m not too sure who is familiar with Smart System gear’s Arm X-1, but I’ve been noticing some odd quirks while tuning and adjusting it and I’m curious as to wether it is because of my specific arm’s defects, my misunderstanding of the arm and/or it’s upkeep or if it’s just the build quality in general. For those who don’t know it uses 4 interchanging spring canisters much like GPI where you can adjust the tension of each individual spring and then there is an additional adjustment for each spring to adjust its ISO response. This gives you 8 speed are options to tune/adjust the arm. What I’ve found is that the more ISO I make the arm behave the “stickier” it feels and the less ISO I tune it, seems to make it feel less “sticky” much like my old 3A style arm felt. So I was wondering if anyone better understands this arm behavior or just understands how to tune the X-1 better in general? Thanks. Quote
Andrea Falcucci Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 Hi Zachary Lurking on the internet I found this post that deserve an answer for whom could be interested on our system. In May 2019 we upgraded the Arm X1 with a new springs (special design and material) that greatly improved the performance of the arm extending also the load capability. We launched these new spring on CineGEAR 2019. Your arm was assembled few months before so your kit was composed with old springs (silver and gold) Since the mod was universal for every arm manufactured since 2010, you should felt a completely new arm responsiveness with the new springs (Blue and Black) We are working on various tutorials to help operators to fine tune the Xtune in order to get always the best results. Keep you posted! Quote

Keep you posted! Andrea helped me out immensely by providing me with a new set of blue and black springs and also walking me through how to rearrange the components of my arm to increase my boom range. Comparatively to the old gold and silver springs, the new ones work like a dream and I have had no issues since. I am always pleasantly surprised by the amount of tuning capabilities and payload threshold that this arm provides! 1 Quote
