Premium Members luis castro Posted April 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 The NEW steadicam Ultra2 state of the art, top of the line, and innovatively designed system flies today's 35mm film and video cameras. There's nothing else like it! The Ultra2 is a second generation Ultra with more features than ever before. The whole idea behind the Ultra ? and now the Ultra2 ? is to make it easy for the operator to operate with the most precision for every part of every shot. The Ultra2 is the most advanced camera stabilizing system to be added to the existing Steadicam line of camera stabilizing systems. The Ultra2 is a comprehensive re-engineering effort resulting in a system that is user-friendly and field-serviceable, tool-free, straightforward, and versatile. It?s designed to make the user?s operating more precise and hassle free. According to Frank Rush, Steadicam Manager, ?We examined every detail of the sled, vest, and arm, first from the operator?s perspective, and then from a manufacturing and servicing point of view. How could we make everything better? You?ll see ? the results are astonishing.? Congratulation Mr Garrett and mr Jerry Holway you are best and number one for my thank so much

Premium Members Charles Papert Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 Sure is. GB and JH have done a marvelous job, it's a really smart rig. Flies tastily and has a solid feature set. Bravo!
Mikael Kern
Sure is. GB and JH have done a marvelous job, it's a really smart rig. Flies tastily and has a solid feature set. Bravo! Second that. But why post the text from the Tiffen pressrelease here? It just says they have made the best Steadicam ever - like any manufacturer does: "more features... most precision... most advanced... more precise... better... astonishing... " All this may be true, but its only words. Who has flown the baby? Is Tiffen going 24Volts on all rigs? ;-) Mikael Kern
Premium Members nealnorton Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 It looks to me like Tiffen has really stepped up with a well thought out product. This is a sled I want to try out. I also would love to try the G70 arm. Now how will the customer service compare to G.P.I.? IMO this is where George shines brightest. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 27, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 Guys, More to come when we all return from NAB, but this does rock. I spent a half hour or so in it and it is VERY nice. New Gimbal rocks, arm is amazing, and the dreaded electronic section at the bottom is no more (just a small, usable box). Like I said, more will come, but congratulations to GB, Jerry, and Tiffen. Bravo.
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 The guys at Tiffen hit it out of the park with this one. Yes I just said that. The Arm is amazing, Light, stiff, huge boom range and an amazing feel. The sled is done right, simple electronics, great battery system. The gimbal is perfect and is fully field serviceable. The only thing I'm not wild about is the post diameter. But it's is nice and stiff. Garrett, Jerry and the rest of the guys you did a fantastic job on this. Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 While talking about this rig with another operator the other day he brought up an interesting point. Why no bracket for follow focus? Sure, velcro works, but how hard would it be to add something for mounting a Preston or BFD?
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 The front junction box (which is removable and replaceable with a non-radio control stage version) is similar to the Master/Ultra design, which had a bracket that clamped around it for motor driver, so it's not hard to imagine something like this will be forthcoming. Premium Members jay kilroy Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 If there are any East Coast Guys interested, we will mostly likely have the G-70 arm at the May workshop. HOPEFULLY we can have a new rig too, I'll speak with Frank. Anyway if anyone wants to come out a join us at the workshop one day get in touch with me. The students love to have ops come out and share war stories and knowledge. Give me a call or email and we can try and coordinate a day to have you join us. We can't take anytime from the students but as some of you know there is always some freetime to get in a rig. Not too mention it would just be nice to say hello. jay kilroy jkilroy@steadicam-ops.com 215-919-4636
Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 Chas, I've never seen or heard of the bracket you described for the Master. Anyone have any pics?
Premium Members Kareem La Vaullee Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 I know that Chrosziel made a bracket exactly like the one Charles is describing to mount their Genio focus system receiver on the Master, it was very simple and worked perfectly, I really don't know why so much operators who owned a Genio and a Master over here in Europe used Velcro and tape instead, to avoid paying around 50 Dollars ? Now the Genio is outdated and no longer made but maybe they still make that same bracket for the Alladin and if so that would be very easy to adapt it for any other Focus remote receiver. I owned the Genio for something like 9 years and used it with my 3As with a very simple bracket that placed the Receiver between the Stage and the J-Box and now that I have a PRO with the fabulous Scorpio Focus I have no bracket to do the Job of holding my receiver properly. Eric, how do you do with your Scorpio Focus receiver on your PRO, you put it on the Camera rods just like I do for the moment ? The Scorpio receiver is big and has only two small 15 mm rods to hold it with Dog-bones. I asked to Pedro at Service Vision if something could be made for it but had no answer... I think that's almost what everybody does, putting the Scorpio Focus receiver on the Camera Rods with a Dog-bone, except one guy I saw here in France who made the most bulky, ugly and heavy bracket I've ever seen. Premium Members Kareem La Vaullee Posted April 27, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 To be less Out of Topic unlike my previous Post I would like to say that I am very happy to see the Ultra 2 ! I had the chance to play with the G-70 and it's a Marvel ! The new Vest is much better than the one made for the Master and early Ultras, and I'd like to try the new sled but it looks good... I heard that the Ultra 2 is a work in progress and that the people at Tiffen wants to know what is good and what could be better, so if you have an idea just tell them instead of bashing them here or somewhere else... Pedro saw my mount a year or two ago and said that he was going to implement it on the MDR. It's a simple AL block that has been tapped and screwed onto the bottom of the MDR and has mounting holes that are sized for the preston mount. Premium Members Edvard Friis-Moeller DFF Posted April 29, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 29, 2006 Maybe this should be moved to another thread - but anyway. The new FF bracket for the PRO does the job with a wedge plate that i bolted to the receiver a couple of weeks ago.
