Advances in lenses, film stock and post production technology have elevated the Super 16 film format to new levels of image quality and production efficiency. Super 16 is now routinely used for standard and high definition television productions, feature films, commercials and documentaries with stunning results. By shooting Super 16, productions gain many of the advantages of shooting film - the film look, its unsurpassed exposure latitude, natural color reproduction, variable camera speeds, ramps, proven archivability and film being the only worldwide accepted standard format - at affordable production costs. The small size and light weight of Super 16 equipment has the extra benefit of easy portability for fast paced production environments.

I assisted Kareem La Vaullée today on a shooting in Paris. When we got there we were quite surprised and excited to see that A-Cam was the 416 Plus. The heat is intense in Paris these days and Kareem had a hard time, having to drink much wine/water to remain hydrated.

When Kareem gets home he will fill you in with all the tech details and first impressions. In the meantime, a few pictures...

Kareem has extravagant demands while operating. He pretends that a white towel helps him look better. Whatever.

The Beast. What a cool looking camera... Note Antlers. The shooting was on the Pont des Arts, on the Seine river where a steady wind blows.

It is little known that Kareem is the world's smallest operator. His low mode shots are second to none, of course...

Wow, you guys didn't even snap the viewfinder off, it must be really light!

Just looked up the pdf for the 416.

INTEGRATED VIDEO ASSIST

The 416 viewfinder is accompanied by a video assist of the same image quality and

features as the highly praised ARRICAM and 435 integrated video assists (IVS).

This video assist is closely integrated into the camera body to keep the overall

camera size small and slim.

The viewfinder and video tap are totally separate systems, so you can shoot on a tripod with the viewfinder and the video tap running, then for a steadicam shot, just take the camera off the tripod, pop off the viewfinder, put on the little cover, and attach the camera to a steadicam. The video tap, (or IVS in ARRIspeak) is an improved version of the one used on the 235 which uses electronic sharpening (increase in contrast) to give a sharper, clearer picture.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to stray a little from this subject but where would one get a set of Antlers like the ones in the photo? They look well made! Any info on that can be emailed to me if you would rather not upset this forum subject. Thanks for youe help.

Do you think the 416 will replace the sr3 the way the sr3 replaced the sr2 or do you think its a different camera for different applications?

Hi Thomas,

Sorry, I was busy so couldn't respond earlier.

I can't speak for ARRI but I think they are going to continue the SR3, even if I have read the contrary somewhere on a website for DoPs.

I will contact the Product Manager at ARRI and will let you know, for the moment I must go to sleep, but I'll come back with more stuff about that camera and the new Ultra 16 lenses that we where also the first to use...

By the way, the Camera on this picture :

It's not the 416 but the 235...
