Hi, I found a used Pilot for a good price on ebay. I know they were originally for more of a camcorder setup, but I've heard of them being used with DSLRs. My Pilot did not apparently come with the cable to connect camera to monitor, however I think that the standard was BNC cable, which wouldn't exactly work with a Canon 5D MK III. Is there a cable out there to get the monitor to work? Alternatively could try to fly the C100, but I know the weight is pushing it. I mostly have this rig to practice my footwork, any advice is appreciated.

Hi Carrie, you could easily use a HDMI to SDI converter. Black magic makes a very small one that I used on my first rig. Also I believe the C100 (~3lbs) is light enough for the Pilot, as long as don’t add too many accessories. Arms like the Pilot really like to be on the heavier side of their range. I would usually add weight to the camera until I got fairly close. I don’t recommend going over the weight limit though, because there are parts that can fail if pushed too far. Hope this helps.

Thank you Peter! How did you power the micro converter on your rig?

If you never received an answer, here's what I did. I used a cheap, USB ported external battery strapped to the camera cage, feeding power to my converter. You could also run a USB cable up the post, and get a V or Gold mount battery with a USB port on it, powering the converter that way; V Mount to the top stage, with a USB cable.  I have a Panasonic GH5 with an external battery and HDMI -> RCA doing the same thing on my Pilot.
