Sean Theman Posted June 28, 2021 Report Posted June 28, 2021 Hello you incredible Operators, Newbie here looking to build my first rig, and I've noticed 2 main power sources V-Mount and Gold Mount. Can someone please help me understand the differences, which one is longer lasting? More durable? More universal? And any other distinctions that you think matter. Thank you in advance Quote
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted June 28, 2021 Premium Members Report Posted June 28, 2021 Seems like Gold mount is more common at rental houses here in LA. I believe V-Mount may be more common in Europe. Certainly Gold mount is more secure as I have had V-Mount batteries pop off the back of a camera when it is rested on someones lap or put down when doing hand-held or transferring onto a head. I can't speak to it on Steadicam as I have always used AB Gold Mounts Quote
Premium Members Andre Perron SOC Posted June 28, 2021 Premium Members Report Posted June 28, 2021 I’ve seen a Transvideo monitor broken by a fallen V-Mount battery. Low mode with V-Mount can be hazardous. If you have the chance to choose, go for G-Mount. 2 Quote
Sean Theman Posted June 29, 2021 Author Report Posted June 29, 2021 Thank you for your input Lawrence & Andre, The more secure and readily available Gold-Mount seems like it'll be the one for me. 2 Quote
