Premium Members Kyle Fasanella Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Hey guys I need to weight out my camera with my 35 mm adapter and rail system. I have a sony Z1U with redrock M2 and rail system. Also I enjoy adding my senhizzer 67 and dvd battery to power the 35 adapter. Its quite heavey and I think this is my first step in buying a steadycam. What is a good way to weight out my components? Should I go just go get a human weigh scale from Wal-Mart? I am looking to spend 7-15k on a steady cam and need to decided on which model I will be using for quite a while. I know the Flyer is my first choice but at 15 pounds I may go over the limit. The 25 pound v25 may be a little to much weight and not enough respectability and quality to last me a LONG time. Any other advice?
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Hi Kyle, With the equipment you described, I don't think you'll be near the 15lb limit of the Flyer. If you do want it to last you a long time, it's totally dependent on what you'll be shooting. The equipment will last, no worries there. There are plenty of posts regarding "which system to buy" on here. Take some time to look through them. As far as weighing your components, I would go with a regular postal scale, available virtually everywhere. Best, Afton Grant

Premium Members David Baldwin Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Kyle With the set up you described, I guarantee you that you will be fine with the Flyer arm. I've used the M2 with a dvx, hvx and the z1. I'm sure a postal scale will be more accurate, but I do just fine with the old "tare" method that I learned in chemistry class. Weigh myself without the gear, and then weigh myself with gear. David
Premium Members Lars Erik Posted May 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 26, 2006 Hey Kyle, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Chris Fawcett a few weeks ago. He owns a Flyer and he is obsessed with weighing EVERYTHING. He had something I just bought myself, a fishweight. Don't know if you call it that in English, but it's for weighing fishes. ;) This technique is great for weighing camera gear and stuff like that. Premium Members Kyle Fasanella Posted May 26, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 26, 2006 Wow thanks for all the great advice! I hope to be soon putting in my investment and to be one of the few the proud the seadIcam crew. With the equipment you described, I don't think you'll be near the 15lb limit of the Flyer. I am sorta leaning on the flyer after lurking around here. but if I want add flow focus and matte box at some time with a thing for sending out wireless signal. these things may make me close to that 15 LB limit. im not sure. would it be ok to say have 14.9 LB of equipment or is there some other limit I should know about? becuase Im sure I am going to be closeto the weight! Premium Members Lars Erik Posted May 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 26, 2006 I'm quite sure the Flyer can handle up to 8.5 kilos (19 pounds). Chris told me this, and he owns a Flyer and used it alot.
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted May 26, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 26, 2006 He owns a Flyer and he is obsessed with weighing EVERYTHING. Obsessed, yes, like a kind of dynamic bulimia. Must see a specialist. Must learn to love those heavy rigs. Kyle, there is a really pedantic post at http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/lofiv....php?t1992.html If you can manage to wade through it, you might feel more confident about the flyer's capabilities. Best of luck, Chris
