Low Mode Monitor Recommendations

What do you use for your low-mode monitor?

I'm flying a GPI kit and have been balancing with the Small HD 702 as my low-mode monitor in order for quick high/low transitions. I love having it there because it really does make things faster. But the 702 is abysmal in direct sunlight, and is too clunky to be practical. And also powering the dang thing via d-tap is an issue.

I'm looking into the BlackMagic 5in Video Assist as a budget option, and a Transvideo Starlite 5in as a more permanent solution. A monitor that supports on board video recording is not strictly necessary, but I'm definitely leaning towards a monitor that supports that feature. The BlackMagic 5in seems alright but you have to do some surgery in order to power it properly from your sled.

Any thoughts or tips on the matter would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

-Dan

While I don't use a low mode monitor (haven't really seen a need yet), the transvideo seems most popular as far as low mode goes (especially if you're looking to also have a recorder). Second to that I'd suggest the small hd 503UB.

My two cents. I'm sure someone who actually uses a low mode monitor can weigh in with more advice.

Hi everybody!
I am also very interested in which lowmode monitors are popular! The SmallHD 503UB is awesome brightnesswise which the Transvideo isn‘t - but it’s small! Has anybody experience with a Portkeys BM5 III WR???

I haven‘t had it in my hands but it looks quite interesting with high brightness, aluminium housing and 5 inch screen! But I don’t know how reliable it is!?

Best regards

Gerald

I got the 5” Blackmagic 12g. I love it. I got a 3-pin lemo power cable made for my M2 rig. It does have a fan, which could be a problem in quietly scenarios. I got the older version of the 5” were I mounted an on/off switch for the fan. The older version is not bright enough for daylight ext.
