Premium Members Igor Savatovic Posted May 30 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 30 (edited) I have issues with screws on the vest's socket block and pro arm socket block. Since the position for the vest screws on the pro socket block is bent, it is actually damaging the thread on the screw itself. IMG_3950.heicIMG_3950.heicIMG_3950.heicIMG_3950.heicIMG_3950.heicIMG_3950.heic It is happening with my WK and and with my ARRI vest. Same problem. The thread on the screw gets damaged with time and is impossible to screw it out form vests socket block. any advice? Thanks Edited May 30 by Igor Savatovic
Premium Members Maxwel Fisher Posted May 30 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 30 My two cents: If you have a tap and die set, maybe try clearing out any burrs that could be on the inside thread of the female side socket blocks. Also, replace any socket screws that are bent. I've notice over time that the bottom of the screws will round out more and more from tightening down, but I can't say I've experienced the sides of the threads getting destroyed like in your photo. I say this having owned and used both the Pro and Klassen vests. Hope this helps!
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted May 31 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 31 If you can't remove them from the socket block the simplest thing is to screw them in and cut the damaged threaded end off with a hack saw. I recall having this problem at one time. I saw someone on this board has machined hardened screws with a cupped extended tip that would compress with use but not damage the threads. Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted July 6 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6 Borrow or get a Dremel tool. And the diamond dust coated cutting wheel. MUCH less chance of messing up your socket block than if you go with a hacksaw. The threads in the socket are fine. The end of the machine screw/ thumbscrews ALL mushroom over the years. It's not a branding flaw. It is just how the machine screws suffer with the constant pressure against the end of the screw. ( Usually but not always more on the top thumbscrew than the bottom. ) Slowly cut the screw off and then turn the musroomed end out and it will fall away.
