I can't remember who did them all, but I know some of them I weighed, some of them other people did and some come from the manufacturers websites. All listed weights (except SR3's) are with the camera is Steadicam Mode, with a 400' mag on the camera, but NO FILM inside. These weights also DO NOT include a lens or mattebox, etc. Panavision: Lightweight 2 = 20.0 Millenium XL = 20.0 Millenium = 23.5 Platinum = 26.1 Gold 2 = 26.6 Panastar = 30.6 Genesis HD = 27 (with video recorder mount on top, no cables, no down converter) Arriflex: Arricam ST = 25.2 with ST Mag, or 23.9 with LT mag Arricam LT = 17.5 Arri 435 = 20.5 535A = 38.6 535B = 24 (includes 100% video top) BL-2 = 28 BL-3 = 29 BL-4 = 30.9 BL-4S = 31.9 Arri 35-3 = 16.0 (no mag) Arri 16 SR3 = 15.4 (with 400' loaded mag and on board battery) Arri D20 HD = 21 (with recorder mount on top. Does not include weight of cables. Also the D20 does NOT require a down converter either, so that makes it even lighter yet than the Genesis). Moviecam Compact = 21.6 Moviecam SL = 15.6 Again, some of these weights have also been rounded to the closest pound. Over the years I have weighed most of the cameras/lenses I've used. All wieghts are +/- about a half pound at the most. Here's what I have: The following cameras were weighed in steadi-mode (ie - low mode brackets/video tops/lw mags, etc...) with the following 6 lbs of accessories: -preston dm-1 focus motor (1 lb) -2 pro camera plates + cables (1.5 lbs) -clip-on matte box (1 lb) -400 ft film (2.5 lbs) *just add a lens from below to get the approx full weight in steadi-mode (not counting the weight of other aks you might add such as pana-tape, cine-tape, scotch-tape, onboard lights, tiki's, rubber chickens etc...) ARRI: -535b -- 30 lbs -BL3 -- 33 lbs -SR3 -- 21 lbs (no onboard batt) -LT -- 22 lbs MOVIECAM: -SL -- 22 lbs -Compact -- 28 lbs (Otto's) PANAVISION: -LW -- 27 lbs (I think the 3-perf LW is about 1 lb heavier) -XL -- 25 lbs -Milennium -- 31 lbs -G2 with the conversion kit and "lw" dovetail -- 33 lbs -Elaine -- 25 lbs SONY/PANA: -F900 -- 30 lbs (with the 6 - 27 zoom, lw matte box, low mode plate, 2 pro plates, 2 preston motors, sony quick release, miranda converter, hytron) the viewfinder was removed if I remember correctly -901 back -- 3.5 lbs *I have very little hd experience, the "Panavised" Sony is the only one I've flown on about 7 occaisions LENSES: Panavision ultraspeeds: -35 and 50 -- 2.5 lbs -24 -- 4 lbs -29 -- 5 lbs -20 -- 6 lbs -17 -- 7 lbs Panavision primos: -21 -- 4.2 lbs -27, 35, and 40 -- all about 5 lbs -50 -- 6 lbs -75 -- 4 lbs -100 -- 4 lbs -150 -- 7.5 lbs and...for your pleasure... -4 to 1 -- 13.5 lbs -11 to 1 -- 20 lbs Panavision lw zoom -27 to 63 zm -- 2 lbs (nice and light, but looks and flares like a crappy still photo zoom...hmmm?) Cooke S-4: -18 -- 4 lbs -25 -- 3.5 lbs -32 -- 4 lbs -40 -- 4.25 lbs -50 -- 3 lbs -65 -- 3.75 lbs -75 -- 4 lbs -100 -- 4.5 lbs Zeiss primes I don't use often, but seem to mostly be around 2 to 3.5 lbs each. While obviously Primos outweigh the old style Zeiss by a large amount, I have trouble believing that a G2 is almost 5 pounds lighter than a BL-4. I think Michael's BL4 figure is probably body and mag with no film, and the G2 at 26.6 lbs is most likely the body only with normal optics/tap. To me, the worst part about the conversion kit is the height (the dovetail adaptor raises the camera about an inch) and the forward tilted mag (longer takes you gradually tilt up -- but, slightly less annoying than the BL's co-ax mags). I used an XL with the light weight zoom yesterday and had to crank the arm down a bit from my last camera (SR3 with onboard batt and zoom). Nice camera, don't get them very often. Just went from an SR3 with sliding base plate and studio matte box (because of filtration.), 2 motors, etc. to an XL with Primos and yeah, closer than I would have guessed. Be well. I plan to buy my own rig now and I would like to have your opinion. In the long term, I plan to work on features only, that is to say, in a few years or so. I don't have the money to buy the best rig right now so I'm considering the Archer 2 with a G-50 or the Clipper 324. My question is, what do you think is the safer choice? Knowing that I will tend to fly cameras on short films (using Super 16mm, a lot), commercials and music videos. For the last 2 ones, the nature of the cameras can vary tremendously, obviously. Since, I'm new to this art and business, does any of you would know the range of cameras' weight (playload), starting from the Red, Phantom and some 16 and 35mm cameras that are being used on commercials and music videos? I've been happy with my G50 and C24 flying most everything that has come my way for film and HD including the venerable F900 loaded. I have not however flown a Genesis on it.
