I'll be using a lite ring (which I have used) I've heard this camera is really light. Perhaps too lite? (I have a master series arm) Any weird things I should look out for with this camera? Premium Members Andrew Jansen Posted August 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 19, 2006 The camera is very light, but fully loaded with battery, transmitter, follow focus etc it worked just fine on my PROII rig (w/ Transvideo IIIA) with PRO Arm... Premium Members Charles Papert Posted August 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 19, 2006 The 350 is certainly light, but one could always fly it with whichever flavor of brick on the back to give it more oomph as desired. I did a concert shoot with it last month and stripped it all down, used my LCD monitor and powered it off one Dionic from the rig (with another for the monitor, xmitter etc), it flew with two black canisters by themselves in the PRO arm and thus was a nice weight for an extended concert. (Will attach the proof later) Provided of course you don't need wireless vid or FF.. Once you add those it becomes a light but useable camera on a regular IIIa Gold Spring arm (I use ProPacs with EFP). I found with a matte box up front, an Anton Bauer Hytron on the back balances the camera just about right. With a Dionic battery it is very lens heavy. One accidental cool feature is it has a LCD screen on the side of the camera which I used once on a Don Juan move.... a lot easier on the neck. Chris Hey Cris, Camera weight is about 9 kg without battery and without pro and prime stuff. Just body with video lens. Its already front heavy, with any lens you use. The back is to light. So thats why i would reccoment to use the camera battery. With primes and pro, ff, transmitter and back battery, its about 14, perhaps 15 kg. It as the same housing as the MPEG IMX, it just shoots with discs instead of tape. I love the disc functions. You have a swith called thumbnail, press this and all your shots are displayed on the LCD screen as thumbnails. You can watch your shots without rewinding. The camera also has a flip switch. If you're shooting low mode, you can just flip the image in the menu of the camera. Nice. I wonder if Sony integrated this in the menu just for folks like us? Chris, have you bought a Archer now? I used the tilt stage on my first job, shooting low-mode live close-ups, for projection, of the Krump Kings in action in the Melkweg. A high-energy gig all round, and after 4 hours continuous, my low-mode got pretty good! I got the sled into a Storm 2700. It fit into a 2600 too, but there wasn't enough padding for my liking. To get it in you have to remove the hinge semi-permanently (easy), and then unscrew the monitor bracket for packing (one allen bolt). But before going to all this trouble, ensure that you can pull out enough cable from the post, otherwise it won't work. Assembly/disassembly time is well under a minute. I wouldn't recommend that anyone do it, but since you asked me a direct question.... I still have the Thermodyne for shipping, though I have flown with the Storm case in the hold. I've just haven't been able to find the right time to do it. Either I've been working or the cameraes I want to test are rented out. But as I said once before, I did a shoot with a camera rig that weighed about 19 kilos. In my opinion, this is the limit. The rig will become more unstable if anything heavier is attached to it. But I think 19 kilos on such a small rig and gimbal is very impressive. But on the 24th of September I'm doing a short with the 435. Do you know if Tiffen will sell the top stage w/ tilt head to Archer owners? Kinda want the tilt head myself. Unfortanetely I've got some gigs when the IBC hits off. So I won't be able to come. But I'm still planning to visit you sometime with my wife. She's got a new job now, so she only has weekends off. But don't be too surprised if I suddenly show up at your door. :) LE BTW Chris, congratulations on your new rig. May you and your rig have many happy moments!
