Kris I've only used the stanton and It's a great tool. If you use it don't overlook the small potentiaometer that controls zoom drift. When I first used the unit I had zoom drift issues and the manufacturer didn't even mention this adjustment! Just be aware. The only challenge is adapting the control to your gimbal handle. That can be tricky is you have an odd size gimbal handle. I had the XCS ergo handle and had to use a modified hose clamp. Get one.You'll like it. Ramon Engle I had the same experience with the Zoom drift and no mention of the adjustment in the maual. Thanks to Ted Ashton for helping me over the phone to solve that drift. Premium Members mark morgan Posted September 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 the stanton zoom focus control is such a treat to work with,it can really be very creative in any situation,but i have had to modify mine to fit the gimble and had the same problems with the lens creeping until i found the right pot,and the only other problem is the screw that keeps the zoom focus handle tight to the part that attaches to gimble likes to come loose during operation,can be a real pain in a live situation,so i added a lock type washer to that screw and it has cured the problem,other wise those small things it works great,and i have gotten so use to it that it has made my rig more comfortable to operate morgan Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The hose clamp thing doesn't seem to be working very well (probably more me then the hose clamp) Does anyone know of a machienist that might be able to modify the standard Stanton handle bracket or their EFP bracket that comes with the zoom/focus to fit a PRO handle, I believe the PRO handle is 1" dia. I called them and they told me they have to sizes of it .89 and .94 inch diameter . John Pappas Posted October 25, 2006 Report Share Posted October 25, 2006 Hey Jaron. I think 'someone' was actually me, but in case it wasn't, here are my thoughts anyway! (I'm in the process of ordering two right now!) For video I dont see any problems with it although the Bartech would be modified - as the maximum motor drive i think is dropped from 18v to 13v, as the Stanton motors would tear the teeth off the output gear. So your Bartech would be modified, but Jim has assured me that if you later upgraded your motors just send the Bartech back and he will make the change for free. I actually emailed Jim today about it and have priced up the BFD with Stanton R/A Motor, power cables etc for US$2635. And what do I think of the Stanton motors? I use them on the Jimmy Jib with video / film with no problems, and several Steadicam Ops use them with the Zoom / Focus Control. My plan is to also buy the gimbal mount focus control (I think its $75?) and mount it on my gimbal next to the Bebob Zoe (which I use for Zoom Control). The BFD Stanton modification (changing the maximum motor voltage from 18V to 13V) involves changing one 3-cent resistor. I don't charge for it and would change it back at no charge in the future if you changed the motor you are using. The M-One is more powerful, much more durable and more complete (more gears, brackets, a motor cable, etc.). It is also quieter and a little heavier. Clients have reported that the Stanton motors are too noisy for sync-sound use and don't hold up very well with continuous usage, whereas you will be able to leave the M-One to your children when you retire.
