Delfino Ramirez Jr
Hi everyone, Just need some advice on which would be a better choice to start out with - Buying a good wireless focus unit or a video transmitter, can't afford them both at this point. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted October 4, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 Depends on what format you are shooting--it's possible to squeak by for a while with 2/3" video and 16mm without a focus system, depending on the demands of the job (I did it myself for a couple of years) but it's a crap shoot. There are many inexpensive wireless video transmitter setups out there that don't necessarily have the performance or flexibility of the industry standard ones, but will still give you the ability to send a picture most of the time. Check out supercircuits.com for some ideas.
Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted October 4, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 Hi everyone when I first started and I just had enough money for my first rig not extras .I went to ever rental house in town and found out what transmitter, receivers ,focus controls everything I didn't have and was able to hire all of there gear until I could afford to buy my own. I would find out what you are unable to hire and get that ,and then hire the rest until you have the money to buy all the other toys. You can never have enough toys . All the best Louis Puli Down under B)
Rhys Duncan
i shoot a lot of video and more recently with wireless cameras so i can get a picture feed no problem to a monitor and i am never without my follow focus , i have taught my daughter to assist me and she has become a very good focus puller, although you can survive doing certain shots without follow focus to be really creative you really have to hand that control over to another person and my preference would be always to have someone pull focus for me, you can always run a lead to a monitor or record a picture on a video camera and to be honest if you shoot film you just need to have both , whether you can afford them or not,i bought a barteck follow focus and for the price it has been the best and most reliable system ever,i love it ,I find a lot of people underestimate the steadicam in a television sence and to be honest i treat it as a two man machine at least , operator and focus puller (come assistant),

Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted October 11, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 11, 2006 not really, but it's worth checking out. The prices are very decent. $600 dollar for a transmitter sounds at least interesting. Jens rf-links.com
