3A Top Stage Problem?

Hey guys,

 

 

I was practicing the other day and noticed a problem in my top stage. I was checking my drop time and as I was doing so...the fore/aft knob began to slip. I am very concerned because this happened before on this rig before I changed out the locking/clamping screw. I took the camera off the stage and checked it out...put it back on and retightened it and now its fine again. I'm thinking maybe there is a spot on my dovetail that is worn?

 

I was wondering what I should do with this problem. Should I replace the dovetail?

 

 

Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Gordon, check also the aluminium around that stainless steel wedge from the locking mechanism. I have an old bridge where i discovered that the aluminium ridge that keeps this wedge in its cavity is cracked, probably due to lots of usage and overtightening.

 

If that is the case you probably need to replace this part, however, they might not be available (new) anymore from Tiffen. I bought the last one 2 years ago from them.

Thanks for the info. I carefully looked through all these pieces to see if there was any defects. I couldn't see anything wrong. Maybe these images will help. sorry for the delay in my response but i kept forgetting to bring my camera home.

 

Also, all the pieces below are available through tiffen. I had been looking for this clamping mechanism for months, then I did this flyer job where the rig was provided. The parts below are flyer parts...but used to be IIIA.

 

If anybody needs these parts... you need to tell tiffen that its a flyer part...otherwise they will tell you they don't make them anymore:(
