Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Hi guys, Sometimes my legs begin to go numb after operating, and I'm not totally sure why. I've always caught it, and it will go away after 8-12minutes. some facts.. I've been operating part time for about 2 years. I've been to two workshops (a 6 day and a 3 day) and haven't felt the sensation at those workshops using their vests. I have an EFP vest that I've modified with ultra ratchets. It has happened before and after the mods. I've shot live shows that last an hour, and all is fine. Then I've done a 15-20min shot and i feel it starting. I've tried adjusting the height of the vest (how low it drops on my waist) up and down. Thinking it might be where the weight is carried, I've tried to adjust the chest straps tighter, and the waist looser, as well as the opposite. I know the pads are old. Probably the original. Any ideas? It's frustrating... =) Thanks Bryan
Premium Members AdamKeith Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Bryan, Try adding back straps to your vest. Peter Abraham is a vest guru if you need some help. Regards, Adam Keith

Premium Members Bryan Trieb Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Hey Bryan, How long ago did this sensation begin? It might be this vest isn't the best one for you. Do what you can to demo some other harnesses. Some will just fit your body better than others, and I highly recommend going through the trouble to figure it all out. That could possibly mean, if you don't want to plunk down the money for a different harness right away....going to a chiropractor, or RMT, or whomever you believe will be able to professionaly assess how your current vest impacts your body...and then possibly taking that info and make some mods to your vest and/or how you wear it. The way the harness fits is really important for the long run. If you want to stay with a front-mount harness, try the PRO....from what I understand, fits different than the Tiffen/CP models and some guys swear by them. Premium Members Charles King Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Hi Bryan. I just bought an EFP vest which I intend on modify a little. with rachets. You mentioned that you had some put on your vest. Could I get a pic of how you mounted them? I pretty much know but I would like to see how you did yours. Thanks. I'll probably start another thread though, so the two topics don't get lost together. Bryan
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Hi Bryan. I've experiened exactly what you have. For me the numbness occurs when I allow my vest to ride too low on my hips and thighs. This puts pressure on the femural artery that feeds blood flow to the legs. This happens often when you operate in a sitting position. So you may want to try adjusting the hip/waist pad a little higher on your body. NOT MUCH HIGHER! If you over adjust you will feel pain in your hips and back so be careful. Good Luck. R

Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted October 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 When I still had my PRO suite, I improved the fit by changing and adding the angle to the waist pads. The waist pad is held in place by 4 screws, by adding washers to the the top 2, I increased the angle (tighter on top and wider towards the legs. Better fit on your hips. (Thanks to David Emmerichs and Mark O'Kane for the time spend on fitting the Harness on my first and second PRO Workshop). It helped considerably to improve the fit... to that point where I ended up having lunch and forgot to get out of the vest... With my Klassen Harness, in addition to the new upgrades and cut outs in the carbon door, It actually improved (decreased the pressure and the times when I feel the tingle...) by loosing pads (down from 4 to 2) in the door and moving the pads lower actually below the Carbon of the door. More soreness on the hips but less lasting pain after a day with a 535. And no sudden lose of leg usage... Greg is happy he was starting to run out of parts...
