It is called a Wevi or Wavi transmitter/ receiver out of Japan. This unit has a perfect picture, I mean no flaws. It transmitts on an multiple IP address(s) that freq hops around to find best transmision. I had to buy one immediately after I flew it. The only issue is a 10 frame lag, roughly 1/2 second. This is overcome by using a Barrington ( I hope I got that name right) box that you give the sound mixer to install inline on his/hers Comtex transmitter. This unit transmitts trough walls. Rock solid picture. This could be IT. Brothers/Sisters check this out ASAP. Wolf Seaberg sells them. Bye Bye modulus, I hope. I will receive my unit this week with wolf's Aanton Bauer upgrades and report back. Call me if you have questions. Unless someone is standing right next to you with a monitor, the delay is basically a non-issue. Also, for video village, it has audio inputs (and outs on the rec) that sync the audio w/ the video. As for customer service, it's fantastic. I thought I had a picture quality problem so I sent mine in. Jin from IDX called me every time they tested and went through everything, eventually just giving me a new unit. It ended up being the monitor... But IDX did a great job of personally responding. The unit is distributed (and mfg?) by IDX. Any IDX battery dealer can get the system, and the camwave system is sold as a trans/rec pair which are factory matched, so there's never interference. I took mine 100' through walls and floors (brick building) with no problems. perfect, digital pic the whole time. And if that's not cool enough, the engineers said they would do a firmware upgrade in the "near future" to allow HD-SDI without any mods to the hardware. Just make sure that if you buy one, you call their tech support immediately to inquire about the future sdi upgrade. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted October 23, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2006 I used a system similar to this on Grey's Anatomy for the past 2 seasons -- the frame delay was a HUGE pain in the arse. It was supposed to be an 8 to 10 frame delay, but seemed more like 1/2 to 3/4 of a second. It doesn't directly affect us as ops (unless you are handed the wrong com-tek at the last minute) but the villiage is mayhem until they get used to it. Like I said, a pia, but the picture is rock solid, I have to give them that! I'm on a different show now and having lots of problems with transmission (cana-trans). What about the issue of all the people who want to receive the signal on those small, portable TV's? This is the only issue I have with my Titan microwave system. The issue with the delay then becomes how much of the live audio can you hear. If you're in village, with audio and video coming from the WEVI, the only difference you notice is how solid the picture is. So, the only acc. you'd need would be the cables on either end. Running the 5-pin xlr audio-out off the cam into the wevi. Not sure how it would work in other situations, sorry for blanking on that. After I fried it earlier this year I sent it to David Hable to be fixed. He did some simple upgrades and since then it's been better than ever and rock solid. I was planning on buying something else when the modulus went down, but it's been so good since it's time with David that I've had no reason to upgrade.
