So, here's what represents the steadicam community on the venerabe Wikipedia online encyclopedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Steadyc...elastic_arm.jpg

Mis-spelled words aside, that thing looks like it came straight out of Battlestar Gallactica... The one from 1979 or whatever... Not the current one with the hot blonde... That's pretty much all I remember from the current version, really... The hot blonde...

What is that thing, anyway?

The company that makes that is Steadydrive (www.steadydrive.com). I'm not sure why the guy is not wearing it in the above picture, but I believe their system is designed with a Heads Up Display, worn over the eyes. I'm not great with the foreign language on their site, so I don't have much more information. Maybe someone else can clarify further.

Best.

Woweeee £21.600 for something that looks like my grandad knocked up in his shed after one to many wiskys.

OMG and whats with the grip handle mounted on the arm ?

Madness :o it's like they have never even seen a modern day steadicam, and if they have then for sure they never used one.

Criminal just criminal this sort of thing shouldn't be aloud, have you seen who they list on the links section ? I'm sure the likes of NBC and Eurosport wouldn't like that sort of association.

I needed a laugh. I really did. THIS is brilliant.

The Muse spoke to the Creator as he gazed out idly at a covered bridge somewhere in Ohio. The Muse spoke......

You shall build the arm as you see the glory of my brilliant engineering before you at this moment. It shall be cantelievered and possess the strength to carry both the mule and the ass, as well as the odd Arriflex Bl-I.

I do love this. A lot. I might need to print out that guy's photo....... I teach a lot of Steadicam Workshops. I can hold up a huge laminated image of this and say, " See this? DON'T DO THIS".

Holy crap! That entire section in Wikipedia has completely changed! Did some of you guys do it? It is SOOOOO much better now... A couple of weeks ago, I checked out Steadicam on the Wikipedia page, and since that's all I found, I posted it all here...

That's the problem with sites like Wikipedia... Sure, it can be an excellent source for info, but many times it's nothing more than promotional material regurgitated as legitimate info. Did anyone see the Stephen Colbert Wiki incident? http://news.com.com/2061-10802_3-6100754.html

I wanted to change some Steadicam info there myself, but I figured some people with a little more knowledge of the history should probably do it...

It's the old Steadycam/Steadicam chestnut. The steadydrive guy must have put himself in under steadycam and to be fair I'm gussing that's how most people put it into google, even though the steadicam listing was always there. Sneaky.

Now Steadycam just redirects to Steadicam.
