a Wikipedia update, possibly?

When I initially went on Wikipedia, the "Steadycam" link was the only one available when I typed in "Steadicam", and clicked for more info... Possibly, the links had been redirected by the Austrians... A crafty lot... See, this is why I don't trust the internet.

Hi,

I wanted to create that very Topic a long time ago but I was too busy, but now I'm adding this message to say that those guys did it again.

They modified the english, french, italian, swedish, polish, norsk, turkish and german Wikipedia's Steadicam pages, that's quiet a lot (I saw that they forgot the japanese page, but I didn't check all the possible others), we must do something like asking that that pages must be protected.

This is their new contraption...

I'm putting the picture here for when it'll be removed from the pages.

That's a shame.

(and forget the Steadicam/Steadycam thing, that's bullshit)

I noticed something on the sled rear section I felt compelled to comment on. You may have noticed how it strongly resembles the Master Series lower sled (as have several other knock-offs), as if this shape has some special functional advantage. In fact, the shape of the Master Series lower sled is left over from an original design idea that never came to fruition. The idea was an internal series of belts, pulleys and gears that would move the monitor and battery in synchronization to preserve dynamic balance, i. e. when you repositioned your monitor the battery would move a corresponding amount (up, down , in or out) so the sled would always be in dynamic balance. The rounded hump was added on to hold the electronics out of the way.

Due to time constraints this approach was abandoned but the outer structure shape was already complete so rather than start over we kept the outer shape intact. As we had already had all the parts and tooling, we kept that same shape for the Elite & Broadcast versions. It wasn't abandoned until the Ultra came along, which was a complete redesign.

And yet, like a "cargo cult" worshiper, the knock-off artists slavishly copy the shape in the belief that this is how a Steadicam "should" look. It cracks me up every time I see it.
