A&J Cases and the case of the UPS calamity

Recently Alec Jarnegin was bemoaning the fact that his new A&J case kept arriving to his NYC home damaged.

Each and every time, UPS delivered the package in a different state of disrepair. The first time a large scratch, the second time, and actual hole in the case! Each and every time, A&J has diligently tried to undo the damage by trying to make it right, finally sending a brand spanking new case via FedEX.

I went over to Alec's house yesterday, and I must say, I have never had a case of case envy before, but THIS is an awfully nice case.

It was nice to see that A&J stood by their customer and made sure that he was finally satisfied.

So the moral of the story is that if you want to really protect your sled (that vast investment, your meal ticket, your child's college education) well, it might just be worth the extra expense to get a really great case, with a precision cut foam insert that fits your sled like a glove.

Well, this seems to be a case of Jamie beating me to the punch line.

Yes, A&J has been terrific throughout this bizarre series of events. Not only did my case arrive intact and beautifully crafted, it included a letter from A&J sincerely apologizing for the troubles encountered along the way. It seems I have the distinction of being the 1st customer in A&J history to have the same case damaged twice in shipping (I'm sure the incidents of singular case damage are minimal too). I'm not throwing this story out there because I'm looking for anything from A&J, etc. as they have already done everything required of them. I've been in this business long enough to know that things go wrong, but it is how a company deals with these problems that defines them in terms of customer service and as a company on the whole. It seems that UPS has not paid A&J anything for this case yet and nor will they cover the overnight shipping. UPS has launched "an investigation" into these matters that will most likely take weeks to sort out so A&J took it upon themselves to make a new case and overnight it to me on their dime. To me, this puts them in the fine company of GPI, XCS, Jim Bartell, Howard Presotn, etc. Bravo.

I'm sure this case will last me for years to come, as have all my previous A&J cases.

Stephen.

Here you go.

Basically, I designed my old sled case when I was using the PRO monitor bracket which didn't slide. Between switching to the XCS monitor bracket and more recently GPI's quick release shoe for focus gear, I realized I could cut about 1/3 off my sled case (I also kept Antlers in my old case) without having to do any time consuming dismantling of the rig. Also, note the way the gimbal yoke rests on its layer of foam; this means I don't have to place the gimbal in the same spot each time I put the sled away, yet it is still help captive.
