Kevin Mueller
I purchased a Steadicam Flyer about a month ago from an eBay auction. It is in excellent condition and I got a great deal. $5500 for the Flyer with all the included accessories, manuals and soft case plus two Sony V-mount BP-L60A batteries and a 4 station charger. The seller was very upfront and honest so I have no reason to suspect, but I still would like to know if there are ways to check the history of a Steadicam to see if it may be stolen. :o (In addition to the local police of course) If anyone has a way to check this out, I can PM the serial numbers to you. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted December 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2006 I'm always surprised... How about checking in with the manufacturer? Call Kyle Young at Tiffen (Steadicam Division) : 818-843-4600 Ext. 17 The other option would be to check with PERA. They list all stolen Film equipment, if reported. But it would be easier just to call Kyle and if the name of the sell matches the buyer... solved. Unless it was purchased from a retailer... check with Peter Abraham or B&H. Leg work needed! Kevin Mueller
Thanks for the reply, Erwin. My level of paranoia surprises me at times too. I did call Tiffen and Kyle was very helpful and willing to answer additional Flyer questions even though I am not the original owner of the rig. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
