I won't lie to you, the initiation is pretty steep. You should note however that the union does provide a payment plan for those who desire it........

I guess with the steep initiation and dues that are also not easy on the wallet, you have to be ready to join. In other words, have enough established to feel that joining will be cost effective in the near term....

Once ready, the investment in career is well worth it.

Interest free payment plan is nice.

$1,635 for the down payment plus first months payment of $195.

Then it's $195/month for two years.

You still have to pay quarterly fees during the initiation fee period.

When each quarter comes around you'll get a nice little bill for $376.

I'm almost over the initiation fee hump... just two months to go.

I'd call the union to make sure of the cost though.

Hey guys,

Just want to add a litlle side note here.

When I was working in New Mexico in December, the feature went union, and we got the visit of a nice local 600 lady that informed me that the innitiation fee payment plan doesn't apply to foreigners (like myself).

The union is affraid that people would come over to work on a feature, give the down payment, and go back to their country, and the union wouldn't see a dime after that.

If that information is correct I find it very discriminating and flat out bad bussiness...

Sorry to hear that Daniel, I think Erwin mentioned that to me as well, a few months ago. That's a bummer.

I wonder why they think they wouldn't see a dime after that? Were they talking about the rest of the initiation fee payment, the qauraterly dues or the percentage they take out of your pay when you do work on a union show?

If a person doesn't make their quarterly payment, they then become a member who is not in good standing with the guild and (correct me if I'm wrong here) can't work on union shows?

Maybe it also because they can't organize shows overseas as easily? I dunno...

Don't know enough about this topic.. may Jamie can shed some light?
