Cost of PRO cleaning?

Anyone know what GPI charges to clean, oil, and lube a rig? I called them today but their office is closed until early January. Just got off a super dusty job in the desert and want to get the cost of cleaning on my invoice.

Thanks.

I'd just charge them at least a half day at your normal rate -- it'll take that anyway to clean up the arm and sled. I don't know what GPI charges, I imagine it's several hours at their shop rate...I just had some work done there and I can't recall their rate (the VW dealer was $110/hr).

Really? I can't imagine a producer OK'ing me spending my own time to clean my rig. I would imagine them perceiving the cleaning of my rig as part of owning the rig. But if I say I have to bring it into "the shop" it sounds more official.

Have you gotten producers to pay for you to clean your equipment yourself? If so, can I hire you as my agent? Let's say one free dance at the Spearmint Rhino for every $500 earned?

Dan, this is something you should establish prior to the job. I have asked for a "maintenance" fee that equals a day of the box rental, when I know I will be in an environment that will require cleaning. Rain, sand, or crazy dust. I think this is fair and acceptable as long as they understand it prior.

keep it clean,

Jeff

Hi Dan I did a job in the Morocan desert last year and as I discoverd after day one, and my first 4pm sand storm, there is no way to keep the sand out effectively It gets a lot further into things than I thought possible. So I asked for a repair or replace deal, quotes were sort and I think the final bill was £1000.00 for the UK GPI agent Optical Support to strip down the Sled, Donkey box, arm, remote focus etc it took about two days. So don't go in to low with your invoice as once they open up the gimbal and donkey box you may well need new bearings. This bill was highish but it got my rig back into reasonable shape. It didn't cover the usual ware and tear broken anttenas, flight cases, batterys cases, cables, etc.

Good luck B)
