I stumbled over that new HD camera by accident...

 

A 2/3" CMOS HD Camera with PL-Mount and HD-SDI out...

I was playing with this little camera at Cinec in munich, I thought it was very cool. This is certainly the vein that the RED camera or the Silicon imaging camera are coming down.

 

I doubt many people would be too interested in putting B4 sony mount lenses onto it since it is the equivilant to a flat plane film camera and these lenses are designed for prism mounted RGB chips so some form of chromatic aberations are to be expected.

 

I really wish these CMOS camera s would get away from the 2/3 in sized chip and go a s16 sized chip since your FOV through these lenses means you basically have to use one prime wider than you would have on s16. All of a sudden a 9.5mm or 8mm lens ain't that wide. However I appreciate the fact the the chip manufacturers are catering to the lowest common denomenator but I don t think they realise that we will not be using B4mount lenses on these chips.

 

With regards to steadicam and this is something I have pondered with the Silicon imaging (SI) camera and it s detachable head, I feel that the weight of an sr2/sr3 is the perfect weight for steadicam so with the SI I would be intending to carry the recording part of the body to keep myself wireless and to have a proper steadicam weight.

 

A lot of the issue s the manufacturers of these new camera s are finding building cameras around these new cheap chips is the data processing from the signal off the chip, this seems to be what is holding up the RED and is certainly what has held up the SI (signal process and translation before the cinewave codec plays). I am not too sure how much effort this particular body has spent in this department, I was not wowed by the image.

 

With great respect to all these new manufacturers, I have not yet seen a single graph or image that has done too much better than a f900/750 , everyone is still stuck in the same place with regards to chip manufacture and there will be no revolutions soon. .... Except with regards to detachable heads however for steadicam this makes no difference but for small jib s, car mounts, stunt cameras etc etc.... WICKED
