Preston Hand Set 3

Frederic,

Sorry about your gear. I have had my HU3 for over a half year and we actually have two on the show I'm on now. Lens changes go very fast (we rarely need to even change the ring - spherical Primos). In short the ACs love it & I love it because it is invisible to me.

Sorry for such a short note, but I need to get some sleep. I think your only problem may be getting one in a timely manner since you are without a focus system now. Obviously you should check with Preston, but I fear the waiting list is still very long.

Good luck,

Alec

Hi Frederic,

As said: been there... sucks. Again Sorry to hear... hopefully it will blow up the moment the guy tries it... Karma my friend!

I so far won over every single AC (with an open mind, that is) that I worked with. I picked up the Cinetape interface (gives you the read out right onto your HU-3) and they love me. Of course it had a couple of hick ups, but every one was dealt with immediately... so by the time you will get your, all issues will be handled and you will not see a difference in the reliability of the HU-3 versus the HU-2... never had issues on set that prevented my AC from being able to pull focus!!!

Mine has worked flawlessly for the last 3 months...

But if you need a Scorpio (shudder...) in a timely fashion, I can give you a name and number.

Later,

Erwin

Just wondering if the owners of this new toy are happy with it. I read about the software updates and all, but I am wondering about simple things like reliability and hardware behavior. Is it still a workhorse like it's predecessor?

The new HU3 rocks! Mine has already been dropped on concrete (not the A.C.'s fault) and it's working great. Lens changes are so fast sometimes I wish they would be slower so I could rest a bit! A great piece of kit.

Thanks Erwin, Alec and Brad for your feedback. It seems to be the way to go.

And with times like these (robbery) I have received about 180 genuine emails of encouragements and one of those was from a Montreal AC giving me the opportunity to "cut the line" for the list at Preston, he will give me his spot (he has been on the waiting list for a while) . In return, I will have him take the remote when I am not using it until he gets another.

Now the only thing keeping me from sending a deposit to Preston is the insurance response towards the change of supplier. Let's keep fingers crossed.

When my experience with the insurance will be resolved, I will post the full story and how I dealt with everyone involved in this situation.

Hi Frederic. Really sorry about your gear. Is your garage attached to your house? This had to be someone who knows you and what you do for a living. Have you worked on any dirtbag productions lately?

Who is your insurance provider? I think we will all be very interested to see how your insurance company behaves.

Good luck with everything.

Ramon
