David Emmerichs built a working model using Lego parts over a decade ago to show his parents what a Steadicam was. It used rubber bands for arm springs. The old SOA newsletter did a feature article on it. And let us not forget Janice Arthur's Steadicam Barbie!

I remember an article in the SOA newsletter about a GI Joe action figure that has a "steadicam Gun?" I think they had to pull this toy off the shelves because of copyright issues.

-Edited-

Holy Cow! I actually found it (not the SOA article but the actual toy on line!) check it out! It's called the Steadi-Cam Machine Gunner. Well, at least they used an "I" instead of the "Y."

I built a lego rig a few years ago, unaware that it had already been done years earlier. It was a lot of fun, and really gave me a new understanding of the forces at work in the arm and the amount of torque pressure on the elbow joint.

I posted pictures a while back when I built it. Maybe Erwin still has them saved. (That guy saves everything!)

I still have the rig here, sitting on a shelf in my office.
