I know there are a lot of gadget freaks amongst us & I know how much we all like our PDAs. Oh well. i honestly don't know anything about this. but it highly disturbs me how much shorter the hand model's thumb nail is compared to the others. Wouldn't surprise me if the whole graphic was built in 3D software...?! Otherwise, I'm a-droolin' too. But just think Alec, by the time the phone comes out you'll only have 6 months left on the contract..but realistically, it's only like $150 to bail out (or "churn" as they call it in the cel phone industry; I've been itching to use the term since learning it on a Verizon shoot!) For the price of a single Steadicam cable, you can be free to churn away, and hold this sucker in your short-nailed thumb and regular-nailed fingers! me wanty. I thought of that as far back as when I agreed to the new contract. I saved $150 per phone (x2) so if I have to pay it back now, not a big deal. My wife and I share a contract so I have wondered if it would be a total of $150 or $300. I suspect it will be at least a few months before they are ready though. I do have mild reservations about Cingular though as I seem to recall a few friends in the NYC area not having the best of luck, but that was awhile ago and we all know how fast things change. The AppleTV does output in 720P and 1080i, so if you have the appropriate media, I imagine it would look quite nice. Current iTunes videos are at a maximum of 640x480 - slightly less than DVD quality. Although many of the Quicktime trailers are in HD if you want your kicks a few minutes at a time. I'm not sure why the AppleTV outputs in HD if there is little to take advantage of it other than your photographs, the UI menus and perhaps the screensavers. I'll venture to guess they're planning for the future, when iTunes does supply HD content. However, I think this AppleTV, or a similar piece of technology, would have to become very popular first to make HD delivery worthwhile. Right now, it would just be lots of encoding time, lots of bandwidth, lots of resources, not so lots of HD viewing devices. iPod? no. Even iPhone, no. I guess technically you could count your computer screen, but sitting at my desk to watch a movie is not so comfy. IF you have a way of getting HD content onto your machine, full advantage may be taken. HD-DVD or BlueRay Ripper? Computer video card recording your HD television signal? Your personal HD movies? The AppleTV will supposedly sync all media, not just iTunes. Who knows? I'm going to be patient to see where things go for a little while. I do love the direction things are headed. Do we know yet if this will be a software/firmware upgrade, or will the older gear like G4 Powerbooks need to have the cards replaced? I was gearing up to banishing the G4 into my home theater setup to act as a house server (iTunes, Indigo (for automated lighting), Phlink (phone automation) etc., but now I wonder if the Apple TV will do as well or better. Don't know just yet. I'm REALLY curious what the feel of the virtual keyboard on the iPhone will be like. The intuitive spelling feature seems very smart. Hi Charles, I've been running the 802.11n wireless protocol from my Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro for a few weeks now and frankly I can't tell very much difference if any. I've never timed it on a large file transfer or multi-file transfer though. The new "n" protocol supposed touts MIMO (multi-file input / multi-file output) ability. Where I have seen a huge diffference is the signal sensitivity. Sitting side-by-side with my PowerBook G4 1.67 on the desk, the C2D MacBook Pro can see NINE other wireless networks close by where the PB only see's three of them. The only thing I really don't care for on the MacBook Pro is it's missing a PCMCIA slot which requires me to bring along a FW card reader for photos. Great product made by a great company with solid fundamentals. Wait for some profit-taking, a little weakness from the nay-sayers, then load back up. As Jim Cramer says, "BUY BUY BUY!!!" The fact that they have been in cahoots with Cingular since Apple agreed the use of iTunes on their ROKR phone and now the iPhone makes me sad to know there may not be any portability to say, Verizon. It sucks b/c Verizon is the best network I know in NY and the Eastern Seaboard for that matter. Not to mention, all of my travels through 40 states in this great union, including Juarez, Mex. Crystal clear reception in the most remote of places. Mr. Jobs must know something I don't. Now if only they can combine the potential Sirius/XM merger with Apple's iPhone/iTV together... Hot-swapable high-capacity flash drives coupled with wi-fi/Bluetooth capabilities. Oh damn, my pockets won't be chock-full of gadgets anymore. Give it time, folks. Actually only the Core2Duo Macbooks, Macbook Pros and MacPro's (Except the 17" 1.83 Macbook pro) have been shipping with "n" compatible hardware. What I'm wondering is how Robert is using said hardware since it requires an Enabler that only Apple provides and only with the new Airport Extreme that ships in Feb.
