So just did my NAB Registration for this year and it might be a good idea to see who's thinking of going, who's defiantly going and if we want to do another get together. Last year's Steadicam Op's night was a blast as was the Tiffen Shin-dig.

So post up your plans!

Depends on how close you want to be and what sort of place you are looking for. Staying on the strip is going to be more expensive than off the strip. North Strip is cheaper than central strip or south strip. Hotels.com usually has good rates and so does the NAB Site when you sign up. Hotels.com has the Stratmosphere at $119/night and the NAB Site has it at $100!

Let us know a little better what you are looking for and we can help out.

We have the Monorail now that pretty much spans The Strip from Tropicana/NY NY to the Convention Center, so you're not quite as locked to taxis and walking as you used to be.

Don't overlook the various timeshare properties on and off the strip; they have condo rentals that are not tied to sales presentations and almost all of them have tour vans that make hourly runs down to Las Vegas Blvd. The great thing about the timeshare units is you have a kitchen, living room and two bedrooms and lot's more space. Hilton Grand Vacations has a property next to the convention center. Some of the timeshare companies are Hilton, Marriott, Westgate Resorts, Consolidated Resorts.

The Alladin, Treasure Island, NY NY and Monte Carlo are good values. Treasure Island just did a major renovation of all their rooms with super comfy beds. The Excalibur just refurnished all their guest rooms so you'd probably find very good value and comfort there. Hark Rock is a locals favorite and loaded with eye candy as is the Palms and Rio; off Strip but nice properties. The Westin Casuarina is tucked about a block off The Strip on Flamingo and can have good rates too. I think there is a Marriott Residence Inn on Convention Center Drive that is fairly decent. The ultimate convenience for the show is the Renaissance if you've got the budget.

Properties I would avoid would be The Riviera, Imperial Palace, The Frontier, Sahara, Tropicana, Hooters, Bally's, Flamingo; all tired and worn out properties. The Stratosphere is overdue for renovation so as a local, I don't recommend it.

If you want to find places like Holiday Inn Express etc. you can look along a street that parallels Las Vegas Blvd called Dean Martin Blvd a/k/a Industrial Blvd before they changed the name. *Industrial, Paradise and Koval roads all parallel The Strip and are favorites among locals and taxi drivers to move from one end of the strip to the other and avoiding the traffic snarl on LVB.

Email or call me if you have any questions or need more specific information. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

GDay All

Yes I am going to NAB and to say I am excited is an understatement!! I can't wait to visit Vegas and check out NAB. One of those things I have wanted to do for a long time and this year I decided to come and dribble over gear that I know I can't afford!! James, I will have to call you and see what your plans are. I am trying to book flights now to LA and its costing a packet. I would very much like to meet up with as many fellow ops as possible. There are so many guys I deal with over the net, meeting them in person will be really great. I guess someone more local to the event will keep us updated on where and when a get together may occur.

Ok guys, can't wait. See ya soon.

Hey All,

Was just looking around the NAB website and noticed that during the DOP Workshop they are running there on day two they are running a Steadicam Techniques for HD Production seminar and I was wondering if anyone knew who would be giving the talk? Garrett, Jerry? Could be an interesting one to see.

Leigh, just sent you an email.

Looking forward to meeting everyone as well.
