Hi guys. I'm making plans for NAB and I'm new to the schedule. Do the exhibitors begin on the 16th with Seminars on the 14th and 15th? Is that how it works?

Ramon Engle

The Exhibits are open starting Monday April 16th through Thursday April 19th. They are open 9-6 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 9-4 on Thursday.

Are there any plans to get to gether like last year? My invites to Tiffen Steadicam night seem to get misplaced and got lost in Vegas trying to find the Tuesday night event last year. I am keen to meet everyone and will get a local Vegas guide this time. JP, we are staying at the Stratosphere.

Hi Guys,

I too am looking forward to a get together in Vegas, but I can't go for more than two days out of the four........sooooo, any idea which nights are slated for a "gathering"?

It would be a shame to be there and miss such an event - not that I can't have fun on my own !!

Someone just e-mailed me saying they couldn't find my booth name in the NAB show guide. That is because I will be sharing a booth with Don Wetzel of Palomar Engineering that is listed under his "Loon Audio" corporate name. The booth is N7327 in the North hall. We are in the Audio hall as Don will be primarily showing his new Loon Boom pole, but we will have BFD, BUZ and M-One's on display as well. It's a nice, quiet relaxing place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the video/film halls. Come on by!

I suggest the "Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas" for the get together. It has a great indoor beer garden with painted ceiling, beers as big as your head and all the sausage you can shake a carbon-fiber post at.

Alternatively, the "Peppermill's Fireside Lounge" is walking distance from the Convention center and was used as the after-show watering hole by all the Operators working for Cinema Products at NAB's in the 90's. Quiet, very relaxing, and it has cinema history: It appears in "Casino" with DeNiro and Sharon Stone. It has the only water-filled fireplace I've ever seen.

Hey Jim, here's the latest scoop on the Peppermill:

<<The swankiest old-school lounge in Vegas was named one of "America's 10 Best Make-Out Bars" by Nerve Magazine, for reasons that will be abundantly clear as soon as you walk in. So strong is the Fireside Lounge's juju, you can practically feel the requited lust in the parking lot.>>

Is this just coincidence Jim or will this be the Jim "Uh...I don't know what happened in Vegas" Bartell trip?

Yikes! Apparently it has a different ambiance than it did a decade ago. We liked it because it was quiet and pretty empty. I'm sure this new atmosphere would appeal to Mr. Baldwin and McDonnell now that Jumbo's Clown Room has closed, but it's not exactly where I'd want to go to power drink with the Steadi-crowd.

Personally, I'd prefer the Hofbräuhaus beer garden, but you have to drive there and the Peppermill is only a short walk away.

So what does our local Las Vegas resident recommend, hmmmmmm?

Hofbrauhaus is fine if you're okay with a loud noisy tourist spot but it fits the "power drink" requirement. The beer and brats are excellent and there's plenty to look at. It's always tough transporting people around though and parking is a bear. With you there Jim we'd likely have enough testosterone to be safe at Peppermill and it would be easier/less confusing for everyone just to walk across the street from the show. Keepin' it super simple...
