Dynamic Balance and the Transvideo Cine III

I have a question for other users of the Transvideo Cine III Monitor:

 

Do you have any trouble with the offset wieght ditribution of the Cine III affecting your dynamic balance? If so has anybody tried adding a small counterwieght to the other side of the monitor?

 

I'm wrestling with trying to get perfect balance on my sled and I think the monitor is my problem. I've read the dynamic balance primer through a couple of times and I can't tell if I should be able to neutralise the monitor wieght offset simply by balancing the topstage, or if doing so is introducing one more complex relaionship to the equation?

Yes, adding weight or placing a battery behind the monitor will balance better, then you will have a unit that is more comparable in weight with a tube-monitor and most systems are designed around tube-monitors.

Agreed. Adding weight to the monitor will help a great deal. You can either buy the battery bracket that Transvideo sells or do what I did. I bought a 2 lb. lead weight at the local SCUBA store. Conveniently, it has a slot through the middle. I bought two L-brackets at the hardware store, mounted the lead weight onto these, and then simply screwed the L-brackets into the threaded holes in the top of the monitor.

I should add that there are 4 different ways to mount that monitor with the Transvideo bracket. One of which will slight offset the monitor to its center of gravity. It?s not perfect but it will give you a nice flat spin. You will notice that there are other mounting holes off to the heavier side of the cine III. Just slide the bracket over about an inch. The other 2 ways are to reverse the screen. If you are confused just call Transvideo they will walk you through it. This monitor structure has always bugged me; I can only hope that they will go back to a more evenly weighted chassis on the next generation, like my back-up, cine I, please...

Greetings all! 18 years operating - first post. I really didn't mean to be so anti-social.

 

I have also had success adding (2) one pound wieghts to the back of my transvideo monitor. Wrapped them in black paper tape and applied velcro to both wieghts and monitor - stuck them on back. I extend the monitor a little more than usual and it works fine as a back-up. This velcro config keeps it flexible for using the monitor for other things.

Thanks guys. My rig is quite vesatile wrt being able to redistribute the weight at the battery hanger, see Rig Engeneering (http://www.steadyrig.com/Steadyrig%20Battery%20Hanger.htm). I won't need to add a full two pounds, that would double the wieght of the monitor, but I think I'll add some wieght to the other side of the monitor to try and bring the COG back to the centreline of the rig.

 

Obvious answer, I just wanted to make sure my logic was working.
