I was recently contacted by Dan Symmes about using a wireless FF with his 3D rig. While perusing his web site I came across some very old photo's of him doing 3D with a Model 1 steadicam, using the old one-handed technique.

Fot those of you with a sense of history....

Wicked cool website, Jim, thanks for linking that. That Jaws-3D American Cinematographer article is one of the earliest in my collection; it followed the two-part Ted Churchill article which I stumbled across on a newstand (sort of divine intervention)...!

Just look at that gleaming, fresh-looking Model 1!!!

I--am actually sort of speechless. I have no idea who is selling that shirt!

However, they seem to be doing nicely with it, so more power to them!

Thanks for pointing that out. If you happen to see anyone selling a "Steadicam Movie Crew Guy's Wallet" on eBay, be sure to let me know, I might have dropped it somewhere.

He was never on the set of Scrubs, they have so many, I think the janitor used it as a rug in one of last seasons episodes...

And Color blind is he aswell...

If you ever find a Spare tire cover with Charles's logo... that got stolen. What was it, 2 years ago?

One-handed operating. Wow. The VERY first thing I did when I bought my Model I was to go out and discover A.I.N. Plastics, and buy some black polypropelene from them, to alter the vest plastics to black.

The second thing was to get my uncle who is a sharp machinist to fashion me a black delrin knurled round handgrip. He cut the inside hole so tightly, that no glue was ever used. We lined it up so the locking screw head was going to be accessable, and pounded it down the length of that white metal fingergrip that came stock.

Not only was it round, but it was not metal- it didn't get bitter cold to grab in the winters. -sigh- I miss that rig, I sure with John Seitz hadn't burned it up........literally.
