I went through the old archives (2002) a couple of weeks ago and tripped over a post by Jerry Jacobs about being in the business and operating steadicam for 25 years... anyhow.

That would make January 25th his 30ies year humping the rig...

Congrats.

Jerry Hope your house is dry again and life has gone back to normal... more or less.

Peace.

Erwin

I hope his official Steadicam Certification card didn't get damaged in the flood! Last time I saw him he still had that gem from the early days of steadi-training.

Not to hijack the thread, but that brings up a little nitpick I have. GB and other long-time instructors insist that they don't certify operators. And yet, upon completion of the Malibu classic (with Erwin as a classmate and Jerry, Charles and GB among the instructors) I was handed - wait for it - a certificate! Yes, yes, I understand the subtle difference in meaning, that what I was handed was merely a certificate of completion, without any mention of how good or bad an operator I was, but still, we all were, indeed, certified.

And given our behavior the last night of the workshop, post-bumper-boats, some would say certifiable!

Boy, that sure was a fun workshop. It's really cool that some of us still stay in touch, and look forward to seeing each other at NAB.

Not only has Jerry been humping the beast for 30 years, he has been teaching, and teaching well for quite some time. Not to mention that when I was down in New Orleans on a movie, several months before Katrina, Jerry was more than kind enough to lend me his Bartech when my went down. I was reminded at that moment, that this is a pretty great community of people, mostly out to help each other. Sure we argue and disagree, but in a pinch, we generally are out there ready to help.

Thanks again Jerry and congratulations.

Jamie.
