ditto on staying local. I too am interested in the U2 -- it's very cool rig.

Right now the only problem I'm having, is the top stage on the U2 it seems a little bulky and even though it has great bells and whistles, I wish you could opt to buy a diffrent top stage with out all that I'm new at operating but how many time do you use the tilt on that stage? Although the price is great.

Hi Victor,

Before getting a tilt head, I really thought I might never use it. I even though of reasons why I would prefer not to have one, but since getting it, I've used it in every shoot. I use it a lot. I'd miss it terribly.

Sorry about all the its.

All the best,

Chris

I never use a tilt plate, but there is a good reason for it.... I don't have one! Sure wish I did though.

The Ultra 2 is an amazing rig. I, like so many others here, am heavily invested in GPI PRO and XCS, but if I had to replace it all, I'd be hard pressed to chose between those two companies and Tiffen's new Ultra 2. We are so lucky to have the choices we have today. These rigs are so good "out of the box" that it boggles the mind. Kudos to all of them. It is very refreshing to hear all this praise heaped upon Tiffen and the actual brand "Steadicam." I'm excited for them and for all the operators out there. What CP did was not only unfair to its customers, it was just patently unfair to Garrett, Jerry, and the fine people behind the scenes who worked for them that DID care (Jim Bartell, Don Wetzel, Terrey West, Robert Luna, Chuck Jackson - to name a few). I am glad those days are over and that Tiffen is making an earnest effort to do the right thing. This combined with a great product and the sky is the limit.

The G70 is a dream. The battery system and lower electronic housing on the Ultra 2 is marvelous. The wiring up the post and the top connectors are a good size to prevent voltage drop. The tilt plate and integral super-post are great options. While it is true that they add weight and complexity to the design, having them built-in means never having to "add them." As an operator, you need to decide where you draw the line between keeping the rig simple versus having all the feature you might ever use built in. These are the different philosophies of the different manufactures (PRO being as simple as it gets and XCS being somewhere in the middle). Again, I love having these choices. It would be no fun if all three companies did the same thing!

Hi Alec.

I have 5 steadicam units. The best one is my Master film. I tryed the PRO gear, and tryed the ULTRA2.... I only can said that my choice goes...tooo Almodovar (I´m really spanish).. Excuse the brome.. I choice the ULTRA2. The new steadicam gimbal smeals you like a cloud. And not forget the new and advanced motorized side-to.. and fore-and... His memories helps you working with super post to right the static balnce at moving. The new G-70 arm helps you to work too much confortable and finest shotting. Wait. PRO gear was my first choice and It´s a master choice... But try the ULTRA2 and said me about it.

Salu2

Can't imagine NOT having the tilting stage on my rig. It's just manual; no motors but I use it on almost every shot.

Regarding Tiffen Customer Service; just yesteday I had a technical question and sent a email to them and left a voice message during lunch. Within two hours I had two responses with schematics, by this morning I had a response from the Senior Engineer and by 9:30 a.m. a follow up phone call on the set to make sure I had it sorted out. Hard to ask for more than that!

Id just like to add another positive review for the guys at Tiffen, particularly Michael. I was getting some tune ups for my rig and they overnighted a demo when they weren't able to fix my rig in time. I haven't been operating long enough to know the poor history that other operators speak of, but the customer service at Tiffen has been top notch for me from day one.
