onboard light

Hey everyone,

did a search, but found nothing on the subject.

Looking to invest in a onboard light for the rig. Just as a bonus to the DPs. So far I've found the LitePanel units.

These are good for video, as video is "you get what you see thing". And I like the look of these units. But has anyone worked with these units on film? Or used anything else that DPs prefer when shooting film? It might not be a big difference, but I don't know that much about film.

Ive used the lite panel on lots of films. Nice soft light, can easily be powered off the sled with minimal power draw, and fairly light weight. The hard part is deciding which one to get; tungsten ar daylight, spot or flood. I lean towards the daylight/flood.

Check out the Preston on-board light. Great light and wireless dimmable with a FIZ handset or FI unit.

I really like mine.

Hey Neal,

if one wants a fully operational light unit from Preston, all you need is product nr 5011 "radio dimmer & eye light with clamps and two cables"?

But it's pricey. $3170, compared to LitePanels $1300. What kind of beam spread does the Preston have? I see it's a round lamp, compared to the LitePanels, which is long and flat. I'd imagine the LitePanel would spread more than the Preston. Is this correct? One must have a Preston unit to control the dimming? Have BFD.

Lawrence,

sorry, I was not very clear in my last post.

On Prestons homepage, it says the light can be controlled by quote "FI+Z Hand Unit, Radio Micro Force, or Focus/Iris wireless units."

So what I was asking is that what do Preston mean by "Radio Micro Force, or Focus/Iris wireless units."

But I can contact Preston directly.

Thanks.

Erik!

Long ago I used Dedoliht with 50 Watt lamp , later I used miniflo and ringliht .

Look : www.steadicenter.com.

The problem is : how to use power from your on-board steadicam battery and be free from additional power electrical cables .

Best regards.

Hi Lars:

You can control the wireless dimmer pack with any of three products, the FIZ handset, the F+I hand control or the radio microforce that attaches to the microforce zoom control. The dimmer will also work with some of the non-Preston lights such as the mini-flos (I Think). I bought both the 3200k head and the 5600K head and the dimmer and cables. Very pricey but in this case I felt like I got a great product for the money that was really well thought out and of course backed by Preston which is a big plus in my mind.

Give the DP a dimmer or an Iris control . . .he or she will be having too much fun to, uh, never mind

Andrey,

Kinoflo has mini ballast's that can be powered of 12 volt like for the Kamio (ring light) or the mini flo's. And they mount nicely onto the Camera...

No cables no power issues... not like a couple of years ago... see below:
