Premium Members Steve Johnson Posted February 22, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2007 Anyone flown with Gekko Technologies "Kisslite"? It looks equal to the Kamio.
Premium Members Guido Lux Posted February 23, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 23, 2007 Not the kisslite but I've put two K-lites (GEKKO) ontop of the mattebox! With a wireless dimmerbox they're perfect!Very light and very bright! I'll post some pix next week!I feel they're one of the lightest solutions for steadi!! Guido "always lighting up" Lux

Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted February 24, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted February 24, 2007 Charles, Like the mount - simple, yet effective. While in LA, I visited Howard Preston and spoke to him at length about his dimmer system and LEDs. We both agreed it would be nice to adapt his dimmer to work with the industry standard light panels. So, I invite you or Erwin to stop by with yours and let him play. With any luck, the dimer can be made to work within the cable meaning no mods necessary to the light panel itself. I realize that people have been placing 32 pitch gears on their panels so that a focus motor can be used, but I just don't like the idea of using a mechanical device to turn an electronic dimer. Obviously there are various flavors of wireless LED dimmers appearing on the market, but I love the thought of using the Preston as its transmitter and receiver are going to be far superior to any cheap system a lighting company must come up with to keep the price down (can't say I blame them, but if you are already using one of the finest transmitter/receiver pairs on the planet, why settle for less?). Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted February 24, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 24, 2007 Hi Alec, Preston already makes interface cables from the Radio Dimmer to the Kino Flo mini Ballast, you can manipulate the mini/micro Flo's and the Kamio... The change is about 2 stops... I will drop of my Panel Light on monday... Later, Erwin I knew I had a picture somewhere... Here the Kamio with mini Ballast:
JensSchroder
Hey Charles, I like your set up. Looks nice but I am missing the 360 cable loop to avoid the twist of the cable. :P You gave me that advice at the workshop and I am a true follower of that - really like it although I often got laughed at my set up. And now I have to notice on your picture that the cable is just directly connected to your vest. Any remarks, excuses <_< Cheers, Jens
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 25, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 25, 2007 360 degrees would mean the cable is connected back to the camera again, no?! I'm still practicing what I preach--I make a nice big loop off the camera (exiting as close as possible to the gimbal, as seen here) that connects to the shoulder of the vest. I'm backed off from the camera so that's maybe why it looks different? I dunno, was I suggesting something different at that workshop? I might have been high on lithium grease. JensSchroder
>>360 degrees would mean the cable is connected back to the camera again, no?!<< Maybe I got you wrong but I my cable goes back to the camera and then to the vest so I can't 'push' the camera directly with the cable. I like it a lot. I can take a picture next weekend. >>I might have been high on lithium grease.<< Ya, ya this lithium grease. Can really change your life. But ACF-50 can compete. Matt Burton
I'm a big fan of the kamio, you can be in a pitch black room and still only kast the softest of shadows if any.
