The NAB trade show has commenced and will continue until the 22nd April 04. The arms are being displayed at the MK-V stand. I liked the bearings on the post and arm has a clean, well designed appearance. No worrisome pinch points that I noticed. Performed very well. Howard has a new bottom stage for the Mk-V and new gimbal (fantastic) and was sporting prototype hummingbird LCD monitor which was great in full afternoon sun or under the convention center lighting. Small case for the large image size, frame line gen included, SDI input and heaters for those cold shoot days! Also at the booth pro arms and Klaussen vests. The MK-V Nexus is designed so it can be light but stable - I have it light on purpose so ops can see even though the sled is light it is still very stable. We will hopefull have a heavier camera at Cinegear + the silver spring arms so please pop by and have another try. pbalsdon Posted July 7, 2004 Report Share Posted July 7, 2004 A couple of weeks back Hugo from Rig Engineering dropped in to show me one of his arms. While I boiled the water for the coffee he dismantled the arm on my kitchen bench, removed the cowlings, springs and cables with one small screw driver and an allen key. While I poured the water into the coffee pot he cleaned the arm and while we waited for the coffee to brew in the plunger he put it all back together! I've had high to low mode conversions take longer than this (on earlier rigs)! Not only is this arm possibly the best adaption of the original 3a style arm it's very easy to maintain. All parts are corrosion resistant too so for those who work in humid climates or near salt water etc. it's a sensible choice. I've become very used to my Master Series iso-elastic arm but it felt really smooth too. I also got a good look at his Titanium Top Stage, which is also looking very promising. You figured out why you might get up peoples noses yet (see Alien thread) Eric Phil Balsdon There are two types of arms, Cabled and non-cabled. a cabled arm is ALWAYS going to have more internal friction then a non-cabled arm, but then you didn't take that into account when you read my post and thought that I was putting the arm down... The Reason I mentioned the cabled part is that Hugo's arm imo is better then the iso-elastic arms which are cabled. The Pro Arm is not cabled and is the arm I fly. It's a very good arm that's economical and easily maintained and will outlast ANY other other arm due to it's superior build quality. It's an excellent option for someone that wants to upgrade a standard 3a arm or doesn't have the budget for a non cable arm or an iso-elastic arm. I posted the original message for the benefit of people that fall into this category. My original post did not compare this arm with any other product just praised how good it is in it's own right. What annoyed me was your obsession with putting down any product that's not what you own or you fly (you've done this to my posts in the past) and .... Very good for Hugo and Dean from Australia. They´re very nice people in both aspects. They´re very proffesional and they are very good in their jobs. My experience with them was excellent and I will not doubt to have deals with them again. I attached a picture of my arm if anybody want to see it.
