Premium Members Afton Grant Posted February 28, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 I just got an email from the folks at Video Village (the company) announcing they're taking pre-orders for the Modulus 4000. I know the brand has a lot of work to do in the area of reliability and customer service, but I thought I'd tame the curiosity out there and share the info. Paraphrased from the email: Power/Video In - 3-Pin Lemo. Audio In - 4-Pin Lemo. Timecode - 2-Pin Lemo. Video In - 75 Ohm BNC Male RF Output - 50 Ohm BNC Male. Power input range - 9-36 Volts. Maximum output - 1 Watt. Quoting the email: "It's slated to have a step-down switch to decrease the power by 100mW, although that wattage # is subject to change. The volume will be about the size as the current unit. However, the new unit is designed to be a little taller and a little thinner width-wise. The VITC inserter is designed to have an optional burn-in window on the receive side. Another big change is using a greater spectrum of channels to transmit. It will use both the VHF and UHF band to transmit from Channel 2-69. And lastly, the new design allows for the unit to switch from NTSC to PAL transmission within the same unit. The unit will come with a antenna, but no power connectors or cables." MSRP - $2195
Premium Members Mark Karavite Posted March 30, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 30, 2007 Interesting that you found a supplier. CIT has been talking about this unit forever. As a customer of CIT who has had problems with his 3000 from day 1, and 2 years later, I still have a problem. Each time I sen the unit in for repair, it takes about 3 weeks to get the unit back, with no loaners available. Combine less than perfect customer service, with the fact that UHF channels may be completely dedicated to homeland security after all TV transmission goes totally digital, I'd be hesitant to drop the $$ on technology that may not be viable for us in the near future. It's one thing to transmit on UHF today, and someone near location may be able to pick up our signal. It's totally another thing to interfere with a governemental frequency in the future. There are many 1.2ghz & 2.4ghz systems on the market. One day, someone will make a perfect one for Steadicam. Food for thought before you spend your hard earned $$. Pesonally, I'm waiting to see what happens. Mark Karavite A Camera / Steadicam Operator mkaravite@comcast.net
Premium Members TerryWest Posted March 30, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 30, 2007 I talked to Peter today. He is still shooting for sometime next month. I will also be selling the 4000 as well as the Mod Quad. I will be making power cables and antennae cables for it. Hopefully we will be seeing it soon. Does anyone in here have the pin-out for the two connectors at the base of the Archos 604 that mate to the DVR Station. I have usually been making the cable using the TV Docking Pod. Does the 604 have the inputs at the top like the older ones or have they gone away? Terry West techrat@earthlink.net

Hi Terry, I don't have the pin outs I'm afraid but the inputs are at the bottom of the unit.
Premium Members Dan Coplan Posted April 3, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 3, 2007 How are they getting around selling an "illegal" unit? Shipping from Canada? Any chance they'll show at Cinegear? Dan
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 3, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 3, 2007 How are they getting around selling an "illegal" unit? Shhhh.... not so loud! It's supposed to be a secret. Please tell me my government has so many more important things to do and places to spend our resources on than tracking down a few dozen or even a few hundred dozen 1 watt VHF / UHF video transmitters.
