Premium Members James Puli Posted March 14, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 14, 2007 Great idea Dave. I've been lucky enough to have a number of Steadicam mentors, here in Australia. I have grown up around Steadicam technology, from the old Mod 2's 3a's etc to the new world now of Pro's, Ultras etc. Even though I'm only starting my operating career really now, ive done 7 years of assisting for Steadicam (and camera)in all situations, knowing ALL the Steadicam gear that is here in Australia and the majority of the operators. For aspairing operators, its a fantastic thing, and a great way to learn about the gear and all the accessories and rigors of on set life. Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted March 15, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 15, 2007 That's Great James! I know most of us who are steadicam ops have had mentors (whether or not the mentors knew they were mentors to others) I've had many great ones. People are voting awesome.. I encourage all to vote who are interested. The next step, only if it's popular enough, is to try and implement this. I do believe this would benefit the Mentors (seasoned guys) even more than the folks being mentored. If you have the slightest interest in mentoring you should vote and then please contact through email through this forum so I get an idea of who these interested mentors are! : - )
Premium Members Richard Jones Posted October 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 26, 2008 Hey David, Just wondered whether you had collated that list of operators who were particularly interested in mentoring young ops? Im currently teaching film studies at SAE Institute in Byron Bay Australia, i've had training from Phil Balsdon down in Sydney, and i now want to take steadicam further as my main discipline. Essentially i'd love an apprenticeship with a seasoned op if possible, so that information from the poll would be invaluable to my applications. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Richard Jones E: r.jones@sae.edu
